The DFW metroplex taken from a satellite at night occupies almost as much area as the outline of the state of Connecticut. Once when flying over the metroplex at night I felt the compulsion to time the distance on my wrist watch. In a jetliner at cruising altitude and cruising speed, I was over city lights for about 12 minutes. I'll bet they don't have any recruiting problems for an urban area of that size. The DFW area occupies about 30 counties and stretches for close to 100 miles latitudinally. I like cities and I like rural areas. I find things to admire in both of them.
The one thing I have always puzzled over is the "I live here" bigotry that makes shallow individuals feel superior to others, self conferring the power to look down on those who choose to live in some area where they do not live.
A few years ago I was hiking in rattlesnake. Ran into a guy and he asked me where I was from. At that time I was still in college in ND. I told him how awesome Missoula was and that it would be a good place to live. He laughed and said it sure is pretty, but you can't eat the scenery.
As a NoDak, did you try anyway?
