If this is true, Nick needs to grow the f*ck up & reorganize his priorities. Embarrassing & it shows that he is putting his wants & needs before that of the team.

Agreed GM, but this incident could point to a more severe problem. He may have a substance abuse issue in general and I hope the school/Delaney address this immediately. Does a kid just get suspended or are they required to take some drug and alcohol seminar/counseling? This could be a one time incident, but showing up to an event like that under the influence could be more than just poor judgement.

Jesus. That is an incredible leap.

This could be the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps all UM football players have problems with substance abuse. Soon the Missoulian will be referring to it as the culture of substance abuse. Perhaps all football players have problems with substance abuse. The federal government may have to start a nationwide investigation, to determine whether to ban "substance", "abuse" or "football". The ncaa will announce an investigation that will last 6 months, and then be automatically nenewed each 6 months for another 6 months. Videos will be installed behind all bars to watch for public urination, which, if more than 1 person is caught, will then be known as the culture of public urination.

Yeah. Me thinks some people forget what it was like to be 19. Course, when I was 19, it was legal to drink...now it's supposedly "criminal".

Like I said in the other thread, kids will always think they are invincible and even though something bad happens to someone else, it still won't happen to them. Learn from someone else's mistake? Nah...the bad stuff happens to the other guy, but it won't happen to me. It's simply going to be that way from now until enternity. As adults, we see and know that consequenses of mistakes due to life experience of ourselves and others. Kid's brains just simply don't function at that same maturity level yet.

The important thing is that the adults involved in the situation made the right call and provided those repercussions. Now in Harris' mind maybe the switch has been made from "it will just happen to someone else" to "oh crap, it just happened to me". Hopefully at that point it becomes real and he can learn and apply the lesson directly. Isn't that what growing up is all about?

We ALL make dumb mistakes.

what is amazing to me is how many of you believe this to be true just because someone posted it. If someone was under the influence at that event, there is not a chance it wouldn't have made the freaking missoula "newspaper"

If true, I assume the coaches observed or were told about it, and no authorities or media were involved. Infiltrator has consistently good information like this, and I assume he's right on this too.

i'm not saying i believe this or not but i do have a question....

would you guys feel the same way about "kids being kids" if harris decided to be under the influence before a game? or is that off-limits but meet and greets with fans and children is no big deal?

I was responding to the notion of "why the heck didn't he learn from everyone else's mistake this offseason".

I wasn't insinuating to brush it off as just "kids being kids". But in the end, kids will be kids and make dumb decisions...and there should and will be consequenses for that. That's what turns kids into adults.

I think meet and greet scenario is worse that than your hypothetical pregame one you describe because the nature of meet and greet is about connecting directly with kids in the community. That is the setting where to a kid you become "real", and not just a player on the field.

i was speaking in general terms. first, we don't know what the transgression was. someone claims to know but i don't always buy everything i read on a message board.

i was alluding to the fact that if it was true, we're talking about an underage kid visibly under the influence before meeting boosters, parents, and worst of all.....children.

people have made the comment that "kids will be kids". "you all forgot what it was like to be 19". etc. would those people be saying the same thing if a player decided to get high or drunk before a football game?

This seems like the only reason you guys are hammering Harris is because he is a California black kid.

Reading this thread made me sick not just because we have a new poster who seems to be a bigger pussy than usual (GM) but because everyone is labeling this kid a drunk substance abuser....probably while sitting behind your computer drinking a beer.

Is it not possible that this may have been the first time Mr Harris ever had a few beers, a glass of Chivas Regal or smoked some herb?

Is it not possible he walked or rode the bus to the event?

Maybe he has performance anxiety or fears public speaking?

The wild leaps and jumps this board takes proves just how castrated some of the "men" are now days you "guys" (and I use that term loosely) are starting to sound like 68 and some of the other feminist agenda chicks that write for the Missoulian.

Who cares if this kid drinks anyway, thats what kids do, and it shouldnt be anyones business until AFTER he has a problem and actually breaks some laws. This knee jerk reaction to drinking is enraging to many and its enough to make some people dress up like Bigfoot and picket highway 93. (unsuccessfully)

BTW did you guys hear that Re/Max is having a tailgate party?
I hear he is planning in having a beer while doing so, do you guys think he has a drinking problem?

What if he cuts his twitter fingers trying to pry the cap off because he was to busy writing scouting reports to remember to bring the opener?

I sure hope nobody lets him hang the banner, he could fall off a ladder sprain his ankle and not be able to attend practice next week. Now that I think about it NOBODY should hang the banner its just too dangerous and tall people might walk into it and receive scrapes on their head. We just dont need to take that risk..........................................I mean the tailgate is a loaded gun, they liquer people up then they have to get home by cabs, walking and DDs, what if the DD is Asian and a really bad driver?

Im just thinking of the kids.

I'm not saying it wasn't a big deal and that there shouldn't be consequences, but to jump to "he might have a substance abuse problem and should get counseling" is ludicrous.

Gun! He said gun!

lol - thats one epic post right there AG. You also failed to mention that to get to tailgate parties one has to cross the street and/or walk in parking lots... HUGE risk of being crushed by a car.

I doubt this is the case. It makes a good story but kid or not they are in college and should have a modicum of intelligence......

So not mentioning any names what Should the reaction be IF a player following all the off field problems and image issues (real or imagined) of the football team the last year showed up to the first public event of the year to meet the community's children drunk?
