My view at this point of season - still optimistic

The team is obviously better with Akoh, probably much better. The team is still very good.

The team is evolving without Akoh. See more below.

It would have been a different game last night with Akoh. However, watching the game, and seeing the same things that most of you did and some posted in the game thread, the team lost for various other important reasons too. See what DeCuire and Rorie said. Especially Rorie in Missoulian.

Didn’t play hard enough. NC wanted it more. Too complacent at times. Same things as the 2 prior conference losses. Seeing these quotes actually made me feel better. NC is good and played well, but UM is better, in my view.

As many have pointed out, and the NC coach told his team before the game, fatigue was a factor. The team was only it’s normal recent self early and late.

Without Akoh, UM is spreading things out. Is opening up the lane for drives and scores, inside dishes, and dishes for the open 3. This isn’t easy to defend, especially when it is a new and evolving offense.

Pridgett is now playing in the low paint more,
and he is too quick and athletic to be guarded without being doubled. Needs to reduce turnovers, and I think he will. He is now a force. Scoring and rebounding.

Rorie is stepping up his game. Everyone is rebounding including on offense. Everyone can play defense, and shoot. Dorsey is more in game shape.

Just like the prior 2 losses, the NC game may be the needed reminder that they need to play harder and better, and want it more, at all times in all games.

The tourney will be tough. The top half teams are all capable of beating each other, and a bad game by a top team can result in a loss to anyone. I still think the Griz are the team to beat, but that will require maximum effort in all games, and the margin is now smaller without Akoh.

It’s a fun team to watch. DeCuire has got them going and bought in.

I think the dance team got their money raised too.

For the Griz to be successful, Pridget can't go 3 for 9 from the free throw line and Oguine can't turn the ball over 7 times. Hope both players got this out of their system. Better yesterday than in the tournament. Griz should have won the game yesterday.

Honestly, and this may sound cliché, but I'd rather they lose now than go into the tourney having not lost in 60+ days....this may bring back the "drive"....Hell, if Pridgett even gets his 60% FT's we win...Oguine was strange at the top of the key....somewhat lackadaisical with the ball at times....

I think they'll be fine, with or without Akoh. I actually like the way they play without him (but he's a presence and is missed certainly on the defensive end).

I think the BSC tourney is wide open with a healthy Akoh unavailable.

This was my thinking, too, at the end of the game. Almost a sense of relief. DeCuire, hopefully, can use the loss as motivation the rest of the season.

And it really was an odd/off night for Oguine. Seven turnovers was quite unusual. It was if someone greased his hands before the game. Doubt he's going to let that happen again. Seems like a very smart, motivated guy.

Yup. Note that Oguine also led the team with 10 rebounds, including 5 offensive rebounds, and had 4 steals (of UM's 7). And, as you said, 7 of the 15 TO. I thought Oguine was pressing too hard a few times, and lost the ball, and let NC take it away from him several times. NC had quick hands. Those things are easily fixed and won't happen again.

Back in 2016, the Warriors set an NBA record for most victories--73. Their fans--me included--were ecstatic. But when we lost the playoffs, everything was erased. Gloom set in. The 73 wins meant nothing.

So with last night's game. A loss is never a good loss, but coming on the heels of the emotional win over the Bobs, a letdown was to be expected. And I hate to face a team in the tournament we've already defeated twice, once by a bunch. I want our kids to be keyed up, on guard, not complacent. This game might bode well down the road.

Because tournament is all that matters.

And the Griz already have enough wins to get that first round bye. After that, it really doesn't matter who you play, when ..."Just win, Baby!"

Good points, PR. Seems like his TO’s happened at very critical times....not that they weren’t all critical given the close nature of the game.

I would say, outside of the Griz, NoCo probably has the best perimeter d in the conference. More active hands than what the Griz have played in quite sometime - especially when defending the paint and top of the key (pretty much what PR said). I'm sure the turn overs will be fixed. Hopefully Pridgett can get it turned around at the free throw line. If I'm remembering correctly, I think he has been around a 70ish percent free throw shooter - though I can't say for certain without looking up the stats.

Wow. you've said some dumb things over the years, but this may be #1. Maybe for Big Sky purposes we've improved without Akoh, but IF we make the NCAA tourney, we will get eaten alive with no legit inside presence that Akoh brings.

Read much? Feel free to explain anything dumb about my post. And when you realize that you misread it, feel free to apologize.
