Peter, thanks for your thoughts. As the trial as gone on I shared most of the feelings and thoughts you shared and made the same observations that you made. I have two daughters and two sons about the same age as yours and as these two and I would not want any of them to go through what either of these two in this trial have gone through and are going through.

Our experiences and how we deal with them and use them shape who we are. I have not had to face anything as serious and hard as these two (two experiences in my life come really close though) are going through right now. But the hard experiences have been the ones as I look back at them now have led me to my success in my current profession and have made me better person. I would not have seen that as the "hell" was going on and it was tearing at me, my family and parents. It is easy to remain bitter and to take the get even mode which does not lead to healing. I hope they both can use these experiences in a different manner than that as they move forward in life. My thoughts and prayers are with both. I also do not know for sure how the verdict will come and I am glad I am not sitting on this jury.

Peter, I remember you well from the early days at the little station in Helena long ago now. Good memories for those days back there.

Thank You Peter!

Occassionally I stumble across something great on EGriz. My wife and I met in the Underground Lecture Hall in the 80's and our son is a Sophomore at UM today. The coverage of this tragedy has been gutwrenching. The same thougths and conversations you discuss in your article are taking place in homes similar to ours daily. Thank you for putting your thoughts to words and helping me to better understand what has been running through my mind since this miserable mess started well over a year ago.

I can't wait for this to be over and wish both families the best in finding a way to heal wounds that will undoubtedly change their lives forever.

Nice job, Peter, of expressing the human tragegy on both sides of the aisle. Jordy testified yesterday that football is only a game. He's right. Neither of these kids will be the same, regardless of why or how we got to today.

Nice write up but these two statements make me wonder...

"And, speaking of the families, has anyone noticed the remarkable similarities between the Johnson’s and the young woman’s family? (For reasons of privacy, we are quite rightly not allowed to use her name or image.)"
Why is that right? Is she a minor? If not there isn't any reason for her name not to be known.

First… all families who send their kids off to college share a kinship. ‘Did we do a good enough job raising them?.
I highly doubt we can blame the parents but I don't know them so maybe we can. Either way one of these Adult Kids is a Flat Out Lying POS Scumbag. And that is the absolute truth. One of them has decided to ruin the others life and make theirs better by forcing a jury to decide which one of them is the Liar. And even then not a single person will know the truth. Only those two will truly know which of them is the real loser.

As a parent, I can't help but feel the anguish of the parents of both the accuser and the accused. I can't imagine how terrible it would be to be in either of their positions. The description of Jordy weeping as his father testified was almost too much for any parent to bear.
