Reminds me of Jud Heathcote and Micheal Ray Richardson, tearfully begging Jud to take him with him to Michigan State, "you're the only Dad I've ever had."Donnie took Shawn to get his things from his aunt’s house, but when they returned, Christie finally got a realization of everything Shawn had been through.
Shawn walked in the door with a small, torn laundry basket with a few things in it.
“Honey, where’s the rest of your stuff?” Christie asked Shawn.
Donnie chimed in that they would get the rest later. Shawn continued back towards his new bedroom, hoping to put the past struggles behind him.
“That’s all he had,” Donnie said to Christie. “He doesn’t have anything else.”
“Right then, I had to go to the back room,” Christie said. “I just lost it. You would never know. He was always so clean cut. He always looked like he was so well taken care of, but he didn’t have anything. From that point right there, there was no doubt that we had done the right thing.”
