MSU's Brad Daly wins the Buck Buchanan award

Daly may have had a great season but his defense sucked balls just like the cat trolls on here. No player that is on a defense that gives up 52 and 54 points should ever be awarded any outstanding national defensive player award.

He had 68 total tackles and in half their games had 5 or less tackles, hardly Buck Buchanan type numbers. So what he had 14 sacks, big deal considering 4 of them came against the dropdown powerhouse Colorado Mesa  who finished 5-6 while his defense came up short in 5 out of 12 games. I guess without Daly they would have lost at least 9 games so clearly he should have been recognized as best defensive player in FCS. ;)

This thread WREAKS of sour grapes.

Grow some balls, suck it up, and be happy that the Buck went to a kid from Montana.

Daly led the nation in sacks and was pretty close in TFL. Had some blocked kicks, some forced fumbles, and few other things. Daly was the best defensive player of the year. Period. It was voted on and has been decided. Why is it so damn difficult for a little brother to accept that? Oh and if you don't want to be thought of as little brother, THEN STOP ACTING LIKE IT. Morons

Brint, you're better than this.

From ONE person. Don't project her issues onto the rest of the board. And if she could grow some balls you would have witnessed a medical miracle. 8-)

Congrats to Brad, a solid body of work for the guy. I personally believe the better defender on the field that day was Brock Coyle, hands down. However Daly did put up incredible numbers and as I understand it did it all while playing with a limiting injury.

Yep....reminds me of the 2011 NFL season when Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL MVP. He had a nice season, but Eli Manning was clearly the best QB on the field when the Giants stomped the Packers 37-20 in Green Bay to knock the heavily favored Packers out of the playoffs. That loss solidified Green Bay's place in history as being the only NFL team to finish the regular season 15-1 and not win a playoff game.

So yeah....it was a nice year for Rodgers.

I don't remember all the stats from the UM game (not smart enough to find them on-line) But I thought I remember Daly had 2 sacks, a pass break-up, and a blocked punt in the game.

Incorrect.

Daly was not credited with any sacks, the announcers said he had one on the first series but he actually stopped Jordan Johnson for no gain on the play. The official stat book reads:

Jordan Johnson rush for no gain to the MSU39 (Brad Daly).

His stat line was 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 blocked kick, 1 QB hit
Coyle's stat line was 14 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack

Tough to overly tell but it's worth pointing out on both of Jordan Canada's touchdowns Daly had a clear shot at him and totally whiffed. Yes just two plays over the course of the game and the season, but two critical misses. Meanwhile Coyle made (at the very least) two critical plays to stop MSU drives.

Whiff #1, he comes thru the line and misses Canada, I believe that's him laying on the ground at JC's feet.

Whiff #2, he stands up and gets shoved over by Kistler, Canada runs right past him on his way into the endzone. Kistler is the big body in the center to right side of the photo. By this point Daly and most of the MSU defense was packing it in, a lot of guys stood and watched Canada run right past them with minimal effort to bring him down.

you do realize that daly plays de, not mlb. comparing de stats to mlb stats is apples to oranges. you sound like you have an ax to grind with daly from these posts. if you want to make a comparison make it betwee daly and our de wagenmann.

This reminds me of the arguments had over Daly and Biermann in 2007. Biermann is a complete stud and is in the NFL so I'm not comparing them today. Daly was similar to Coyle and Tripp in being a great LB that year, but Biermann like Daly had a highlight reel season. And also very similar is the fact that Biermann had only one tackle in the Cat Griz game that year.

This is a GREAT comparison. I don't remember many bobcat fans saying Bobby was better than Kroy that year, even with only one tackle in Cat/Griz. I know I didn't think it, and Kroy has proven to be deserving of the award. I hope Brad gets the same opportunity, but with his chronic back problems it's an uphill climb IMO.

:agree: Good kid! I've known him since he played at Capital. Wish he had played for the Griz!

What? No way... he does? All this time I was so confused.

Come on dude, yeah I know he played DE. And last I recalled we were talking about the best defensive player in the FCS and not the best defensive end in the FCS.

I don't think people here would argue that Coyle should have won the Buchanan but yah...Daly deserved the award but I think the FCS lacked many defensive power house players this year and I believe the method of voting is kind of dumb.

IN YOUR FACE, BWAHL!

Well you can't expect a thread to go well when the original post made an obvious point that they didn't think Daly was the best player in the conference let alone the country.
