MSU v UCLA

Cats got down by about 14 early in the game, while shooting only around 25% (UCLA was at about 69%). They were getting killed on the boards too. Then Tre Johnson came in... he scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in just a little bit of time and brought them back into it. They were down 36-29 at halftime, and are about even on the boards now.

UCLA looks like they may have their hands full with the Cats.

Wow, cats only down by 1 now. On an 8-2 run to start the 2nd half.

Hm..very questionable foul on Howard... Called him for a shooting foul while he was fighting for a rebound with one of the UCLA players... Not sure it was even a foul... It sure as hell wasn't a shooting foul by any stretch of the imagination. The UCLA player missed both so i guess it didn't matter.

Cats are now up by 1 39-38.

Cats are starting to fall apart unfortunately :( They went about 8 minutes without scoring a point.. UCLA went on a 12-0 run in that time. Cats are now down 63-50. Cats have 7 fouls on them so far this half, UCLA has 1. Cats are still in it if they can snap out of this horrible shooting slump they've gone into.... Hm...steal for UCLA now followed by a dunk. UCLA up 15 with only 5:30 left. This may be getting out of reach for the cats..

The bobKats would be into the game a little bit better if they didn't constantly trip over that ten second line bringing the ball up court. Do they even have the ten second line anymore? Just like 'em, really, setting the game of basketball back twenty-five years.

UCLA s-u-c-k-s this year.

The Cats look like a low-major Big Sky team, their players look like their coach found them playing street ball. They suck worse than the Bruins.

I can't believe my curiosity got the better of me and I'm actually watching this abortion of a game.

I don't think you are giving UCLA or the Cats enough credit this year.. UCLA took Kansas down to the wire (VERY questionable call too) at Kansas...no one beats Kansas @ Kansas... They also beat ranked (and undefeated at the time) BYU.

I think the Cats will be pretty good this year too really. Howard and Rush are very good, and they've shown that they have some good young players too like Johnson.

This game just got away from the Cats when they went through that horrible slump starting at the 15 minute mark, where they went about 8 mins without scoring. They were up 46-43..and end up losing 75-59.

Dex, you're hoops fan. Don't give me that "well, the kitties were up at one point". You know that's how basketball works. This was a blowout to the point that UCLA had the great grandson of John Wooden on the floor at the end of the game getting minutes. Two bad teams got their fart on tonight, UCLA just stunk less.

Yeah, UCLA hung with KU. Again. That's hoops. These are Big 6 teams stacked with Micky D's players. They should be able to stack up against each other on any given night.

The Cats are not on the same level as the Griz, not in the same building. Does that mean they can't beat the Griz?

No.

That's hoops.

Trust me, I realize college basketball is much different than football in that "upsets" are much more common when it comes to mid majors beating the big boys, or even just hanging with them. Obviously it happens every year in the NCAAs...a 12 upsetting a 5 (that's pretty much expected) and other teams that aren't expected to get out of first round making it to the sweet 16 (or further)... That's what I love about college basketball. We play in the same division as the big boys, and you never know when a Mid Major team is going to shock everyone and make it to the final four or something like that in the tournament.

Right now do I think the Griz are better than the Cats? Yes.. I do. I'm not going to argue that, but I do think that the Cats aren't as bad as you think they are. If I had to guess, just based on how the season has gone so far for the Big Sky teams, I'd guess the Griz and Weber will be fighting it out for the 1 and 2 spots. The Cats & NAU for the 3 & 4. I don't see UNC being as good as they were last year.

UCLA is also not as bad as you think they are. They also aren't as good as they've been in the past. This UCLA team has a long ways to go obviously....and will probably finish around the middle of the Pac-10 again (probably similar to last year when they went 8-10). I don't expect to see them make it to the NCAA tournament, but who knows..maybe they'll surprise some people.

Fact is, even if they do only finish 8-10 in the PAC-10 like last year, they will still be one of our "quality" wins, and better than most of the Big Sky, and most mid major teams out there. Currently their RPI is better than any Big Sky team by quite a bit.

give the bobs credit, they played well for a good stretch, and revealed some great young talent--especially tre johnson. in the end, they were neither big enough nor athletic enough to hang with ucla. the griz were. rare for a montana team to step on the court against almost anybody, and have the quicker point guard and the better center--no matter that uniform reads "ucla." but that's the luxury we have this year.

The kitties get their barnholes blownout by a bad, bad Bruins squad. 75 - 59.

Rush is the only player on MSU that could maybe start for the Griz. Howard is laughably overrated.

Loolz.

Are you kidding me! This welcher is still posting his nonsense on here

BTW, Howard is among the league leaders in PPG and rebounds and will very likely be selected all-conference again by people who actually know what they are talking about.

dub is right on this one. ucla isn't a very good team and despite the cats hanging in there for a half they had their way with us down the stretch. ucla is a young team and i think they will stay in some games they shouldn't and will likely drop some wins they should have. but the cats are going to struggle this year i think. we have no post play whatsoever, and our team doesn't play as a unit.

and let's not even talk about our shooting. we take bad shots, and miss many of the good ones as well. last night was another shooting night in the 30's which isn't gonna win many games.

rush and bobby are both good players. i agree that bobby may in fact be overrated simply because people who just look at his numbers will think that he's one of the best in the big sky. and he probably IS one of the best 10-15 guys in this conference. but he and rush are the only guys taking shots so his ppg looks good. i do appreciate his rebounding though as we are so undersized that SOMEONE needs to try and get boards and i think he's done a good job of that. but this is like a poster on bobcatnation trying to convince us that carlos taylor was one of the best bobcats ever because he ledt the conference in scoring. i pointed out that he led the conference in scoring when the cats were really bad and he shot the ball everytime he touched it! dude had over 400 shots and the next closest was mvp dominguez at 325.

i'd love to side with dex on this one but i'll be very, very surprised if the cats are able to turn things around and become one of the top 4 in this conference. obviously i would love to see it but this team would really have to change their identity and that is not easy to do months into a season....

What no one has mentioned is Mid Majors seldom have players leave early. Yes i know EWU did with Stuckey. UCLA seldom has a starter in the program 4 years. Howland took his team to the Final 4 3 straight, so the guy can coach. he just needs to restock and he will do it again.
