Ok so being an MSU grad in Engineering I have my own personal grievances with that school besides the Bobcat football team.
First off I wanna make clear that I don't support any violence, hate, or threats against ANYONE. No matter your political affiliation or orientation.
However, there are a few things from that article that I wanna address because they are really far fetched. I am republican as is most of my family. But I have views on both sides of the isle. I don't agree with the radical right or the radical left. If you wanna solve problems, you gotta work together, not just for the benefit of your party. I love Montana because it really doesn't matter what side you're on because we all share similar values about our state.
1) The student saying they transferred to Boise State because they felt threatened...really? I'm sorry, Boise St is more conservative than any campus in the PNW and I think they still have conceal carry laws on campus. From my college experience, the left leaning groups preached from the balconies constantly they hate conceal carry laws because a group at MSU tried to get that law in place. (It never passed)
2) The student who transferred to Iowa State because they felt threatened because of white supremacy? That's the most ridiculous comment I have ever heard. I understand the point of being called the "N" word but african-american students (even msu football players) and adults alike call each other that ALL THE TIME, and its not racist then. You can't be offended by a word if you yourself use it as a term of endearment to other people, including yourself. Not saying that's the case here because it seems like in the article its not.
That being said, the racial slurs being yelled by cat fans at a football game, that absolutely is real. I heard it when I was in the marching band. Griz fans do it too but I heard more of it from cat fans, mainly near the student section.
3) This article is full of manufactured lies and claims from these groups because they somehow feel entitled to be treated above the rest of the us. Newsflash people, you aren't any more special than the person sitting right next to you. I have met many people in marching band part of the LGTBQ community and they don't like a lot of the ridiculous lengths some of these people go to, to make others bend to their will.
4) The fact that the event off campus went on with no issues, and MSU police determined the threat was not credible, and then somehow the groups feel the university screwed up because an event not affiliated with MSU directly or on campus had threats against it, that that somehow violates their safety rights....give me a fricken break. If you're off campus, MSU ain't responsible for you. That's like saying, I'm gonna sue MSU because someone broke into my house and I have to live here to go to MSU, so they are responsible.
5) I have a feeling the harassing emails sent from the fake TP-USA address was an inside job or another group to maybe try and get the group expelled from campus or because QSA/the other group wanted to get a point across and faked the email to make MSU do something. On the flip side, it could be legit, but I have a hard time believing it.
6) Cruzado is not all she seems to be. People seem to think that she is always out with the people and wants to be around. NO. 5 years on that campus and I maybe saw her walking about 3 times. She stays in her office, collects her ridiculously over-inflated salary and only comes out when there is media around. Thats it. She doesn't care otherwise which makes sense why there have been no firings over the DUIs from coaches, and now this DOE investigation.
Personally I think MSU will get a slap on the wrist from this but I believe most of the claims in the article are over-hyped, created from hysteria, and playing victim by association. It's unfortunate as the education I received was very good and got me great job out of college.
