MSU does not tolerate underperfomers. The Cats embrace winning and have a winning tradition.

Well, now we all know who the town drunk is.

I do tend to throw a few back WyoG, but read the post again - sarcasm with a capital S. Don't overlook my comments pertaining their bball program. :o

There's a couple of posters on BN who think next year will be a 10-2 season with that schedule... I'm just not seeing that happening.

Well, honestly, what did you expect? A lot of people on here thought the Griz were going to smoke Tennessee a couple of years ago, didn't happen. Everyone was preparing for NDSU even before the CCU game was played. You hope for the best, even when it doesn't look that way, can't fault them for that.
I have no idea how this season will go, all I know is that I will try to show up for each game, make it safely to Bozeman and back, and have a good time enjoying the weekend and my friends.

Got time for a little game of VIM?

First off, let me state that I hate state as much as any Griz fan. That being said, I've always wondered where the questioning of the legitimacy if their '84 Nat Champ has come from. I actually began to wonder for myself if it was real, especially living down here with all these Alabaman's that claim a bunch of false championships. I always thought that couldn't happen with our playoff system. I finally looked it up and I found this info from the 2009 Nat Champ media guide.

Intresting enough, states game w/ Ark St this year is a rematch of their quarterfinal game that year.

1984
First Round (11/24):
Louisiana Tech 66, Mississippi Val. 19
Middle Tenn. 27, Eastern Ky. 10
Richmond 35, Boston U. 33
Arkansas St. 37, Chattanooga 10

Quarterfinals (12/1):
Louisiana Tech 44, Alcorn St. 21
Middle Tenn. 42, Indiana St. 41 (3 ot)
Rhode Island 23, Richmond 17
Montana St. 31, Arkansas St. 14

Semifinals (12/8):
Louisiana Tech 21, Middle Tenn. 13
Montana St. 32, Rhode Island 20

Championship (12/15):
Montana St. 19, Louisiana Tech 6

the game griz fans talk about is the 1956 game that ended in a tie, but the cats were voted national champions. it's just like the griz would have been voted national champions if they beat ndsu in 69 and 70.

Ohhhhhhhh. I had never heard that before. Well that does make sence. Thanx for clarifying.

Hahaha! Let me guess, there were no pictures of the game in the media guide, were there?

you guys amaze me sometimes. well, actually a lot.

no one can claim a national championship. you either win it on the field or its given to you by a group of voters or committee. if the f.c.s. selection cmte picks you to be in the playoffs, you don't claim to be in them, you're in them. if the n.a.i.a. says m.s.u. is its nat'l champ, that isn't m.s.u.'s claim. it's the n.a.i.a.'s claim. m.s.u. doesn't control the n.a.i.a.

the only way to claim yourself as something is by going 11-0 and seeing another 11-0 team selected as national champion and then claiming to be national champion anyway.

I agree. This drives me nuts too. Who really cares anyway?

That said, you guys rib us Griz fans for allot less. All in good fun.

Like U wash. are they considered national champions ( i think 1990 ) by Griz fans or just the rest of the country :?:

But...... there is still a way for Griz fans to talk smack on the Cats national championship claims,
Lots of Cats, including Sonny Holland claim MSU won the 1964 national championship, so there is that...

A quick youtube search reveals plenty of evidence that the 1991 Huskies did in fact win a share of the national championship when they beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl. I've been looking for anything that proves the cats won the NC in '84 for quite some time now and have come up empty. Don't get me wrong. I want to believe, but without any video or photographic proof it's an existential leap that I just can't make.

The 1964 claim is a new one to me but I'm not surprised. Probably a knee jerk response to the recent questions surrounding the 1984 claims. When you are attacked, deflect, deflect, deflect.

Or, you can always claim something happened when you can't produce one bit of visual proof. That's another way. Just make sure these kinds of claims are long enough ago to make people less likely to question it. 1984 was a shitty choice to falsify a NC because there is so much video evidence of every single other championship in every other sport that year.

Exactly right. "Oh shit, they're asking questions about 1984. Let's claim another one further back."

that's a funny thread. you do realize there's a difference between visual and video, don't you? thinking you meant video evidence  as there is lots of visual evidence of m.s.u. winning championships from multiple sources.
