Not Griz related but noticed the coach had the same four goals... including to win a national championship at MSU-Northern. Seems like a solid hire for a coach, but I hope he realizes where he is actually going to be coaching and recruiting to... Havre has it for sure :o

“I have four goals for our team as a head coach: graduate, beat our rival, win the Frontier Conference, and win a national championship,” he continued. “And I can tell you that we’ll do everything we can, every single day, to achieve those goals. Those are high goals, but that’s what I believe, and I believe we can do that here. I want this program and our student-athletes to be successful, and I’ll work relentlessly to help make that happen.”

Who is the rival for MSU-Northern in Football? Seems every team just counts them as a "W" on the schedule before playing them. If University of Providence (formerly University of Great Falls) adds football and MSU-Billings drops down from NCAA Division II to NAIA and adds football, the Frontier Conference could get really interesting and there would be many additional opportunities for Montana high school kids and beyond to play college football in the state of Montana. Already, there are currently 7 colleges in Montana with college football.

I broke this story last night actually. LOL. Those are all quotes he gave me last week. Rolin is a young guy, only 30. But played for Harbaugh at San Diego, and has already coached at San Diego, Washington, and San Jose State, including recruiting coordinator at San Jose State. He had Harbaugh as a reference on his resume, and when the Northern search team called him, he actually answered and raved about Rolin.

Also, he knows full well what he's getting into. He knows Northern's past history, it's current situation, and how tough the Frontier is. He says he's up for the challenge. Here's all three of my stories on him.

Great info and write-ups George! Didn't realize he had been living in Libby. Seems like his family will be a great addition to Havre and MSU-N athletics. His wife could probably help out with the volleyball team as well.

Hmmmm his goals seem lifted right from Bobby' s.

He better be ready for a tough first head gig, Havre not a easy place to recruit a football team to that's a given.

I've covered the Lights since 2004. Actually, they had a pretty good run from 2005-2013. They had six winning seasons, including the magical 2006 season where they played Carroll three times. Lost in Helena on a last-minute field goal, ended Carroll's 32-game winning streak a month later in Havre, then lost in the first round of the playoffs back in Helena in November. Samson had a good run while he was at Northern. They were very tough to beat and always had nasty defenses. Obviously, they've fallen on very, very hard times, but, creating a winning program has been done here before. It's not impossible, and the kids who have came here and played sports at Northern have nothing but great things to say about Havre. Also, the balance of power has really shifted in the Frontier. The best team in the league doesn't even reside in the state of Montana, and doesn't recruit Montana kids at all. Tech is king now when it comes to recruiting in Montana, and Rocky has something special building with Petrino. If Rolin can make some inroads in in-state recruiting, even a little, which is something the last guy just absolutely couldn't do enough of, he will make progress, because this isn't the Frontier that was once dominated by Carroll. But, that will be the biggest factor, getting some more Montana kids to come, and I can tell you right now, Havre isn't the football program's issue when it comes to that. It is for other sports, but right now, the last three seasons, and things like making ESPN for giving up 93 points in a game largely overshadow it just being Havre in a kid's mind right now. So we'll see.
