msu coach

Sounds like to top 3 are assistants from Washington (tj ottzelberger), New Mexico (Lamont Smith) , and Indiana (Steve McClain). All three look like solid candidates with the UW and UNM guys probably being top 2...at least in my eyes

Thanks wbt. Those were guys I thought would get looks. Have they interviewed yet?

It sounds like it . Mslacat posted there could be an announcement by the end of the week.

it seems brian fish came out of nowhere, late, like a horse making a phenomonal stretch run. the clear favorite seems to have been lamont smith from the new mexico staff, a rising young recruiting star, or assistants from washington or indiana. fish's name didn't surface until the day he took the job.

two ways to read this. one, the top three choices turned them down, because they didn't want to take cuts in salary, or didn't find the job that appealing. or two, fish just suddenly emerged and blew everybody else away. i'm inclined to the first view, but still think they got a good guy.

i do believe this: our job would be a helluva lot more attractive, should we find ourselves in that position. not worried that we couldn't attract a great rising star.

Fish should be a good hire. He's certainly seen, as an assistant, how to take mid-major programs to the Tournament.

He's got a lot of work ahead of him.
Number one priority: getting people to show up to the games. Attendance has suffered mightily in the last few years.

Not sure who first choice was, but all would take a significant pay cut to come to msu, and all of the above likely would be a step up from huse

That might be pretty difficult these days since most, if not all, msubobcat fans tend to spent most their time over on egriz.com

According to fields thats what happened. This looks like a good hire on paper. I really liked Dana Altman's teams at Creighton and he has the Ducks in the tourney about every year now.
