MSU asking state for additional $$

Apparently Everett has forgotten about the $1 million UM athletic budget shortfall of 2003-2004. Not that the past matters or anything.

Haven't forgotten at all.

I also know that there were countless threads and discussions on this board and on bcn regarding it. Why? Because $1 mil is worthy of discussion, and for any cat fan to suggest it isn't is a cat fan who is simply trying to move the conversation away from where it should be, which is:

WTF does msu athletics receive so much more state money than Montana?

They aren't good at much, but they are good at deflection. Losing probably does that....

Says the Griz fan after a 5-6 season. So, again, why doesn't MSU deserve the money? And are you certain that just because MSU would get the money would mean that Montana wouldn't? How do you know? Please answer and try not to deflect.

Clearly you don't understand the budgets. For some reason, I'm not surprised....

Each university is alloted an aggregate amount of funding based on FTE headcount. That money can be --with certain limitations -- apportioned out as the Presidents see fit. UM's athletic dept receives far less general university funds than does msu's. It's been shown in budget after budget after budget, year after year.

So, no. UM isn't going to get any more money. And neither is msu. But if they agree to this, they will take state money that should go elsewhere (read, educational purposes, salaries, library, etc) and give it to athletics, who evidently cannot pay their own freight.

Montana residents should be pissed (and by reading through the comments to the article, I'd say they are).

Oh, and kudos for the 5-6 reference. Way to work that meaningless stat into a story about msu stealing taxpayers' dollars.

Wow! Insecure? Funny. What are scat fans doing on egriz? That's insecurity for ya!
Are you saying that I am insecure? Wondering how if so?

Why yes, I am. If one was secure in their standing, they wouldn't need to troll on other sites to see what might be being said about them. So, is it insecurity or envy? Or both?

Fields must be banking on a huge profit from the Monmoth game as he has already committed the $300k SMU paid out. Wonder what it will cost the kitties to travel all the way to Texas for an ass woopin'...

Absolutely none of the above. I am a fan of both schools jackwad, just happened to go to MSU when other members of my family went to the UofM. I thought the Eul. things was actually pretty witty, just curious why he used it. You may be the one who is insecure by ass blowing users on a PUBLIC forum or just not very smart, you choose, I can already tell.

The money that the MSU Athletic Dept. has put in for is money that has already been allocated to MSU by the State. MSU has $2 million they will alocate based on requests by all depts within MSU. Whichever requests that are judged to have the most merit based on furthering the success of MSU will get allocated those sums requested.

As I stated above. But if apportioned to atheltics, there's a $1 mil opportunity cost to the university (state), no?

My take on it, if the Unversity judges that this request will result in the best future return to the University (State) then they will get the money.

Stealing taxpayer dollars? That's a gas. Don't you think that the college that produces more financially stable jobs and economically immune professionals should get more money? If you're going with the word "stealing" here, I would argue that everytime the taxpayers in this great state pay for a dance or environmental journalism class, it is highway robbery and only produces more Florios for this world.

The 5-6 reference was made only because some genius wrote "losing probably does that." Losing when? Losing last season? As far as I can remember there was only one true loser, both on and off the field, and it wasn't the team from Bozeman.

What? Future return? Universities are not corporations. You don't allocate money based on which department drives revenue. If so, the Admissions department staff would travel around in private jets.

It's a university. The money should be allocated where it's needed.

Ahhh yes. JP ignoring the issue, and once again getting his ass kicked in a debate, so he goes with his old standby smack to try once again to divert the conversation: UM offers liberal arts programs.

Wow, you're a mental midget.

Bullsh*t. Defensive, lying, name calling. Gotcha insecure boy.

There are 104 proposals from different depts within MSU. The ones that are judged to most help meet MSU's strategic goals and objectives will get a share of the money. That's what I meant about a return.

Raise the price of a ticket to watch a Monmouth (?) play. Obviously MSU has watched and learned from UM's established bait and switch philosophy. :thumb:

IF UM had 2 million set aside for "strategic goals" and asked anybody and everybody for proposals. I guarantee UM athletics would have been in the running for a piece of the pie.

Ticket prices for MSU I believe are still cheaper than Griz tickets. As you mentioned the Griz do the same thing. Let's face it, with costs going up, this stuff is happening everywhere.

Perhaps.

And FWIW, I'm not even saying it's a bad thing that msu athletics is trying to grab the dough. I just found it curious how many cat fans thought the issue wasn't worthy of discussion here (even though we know that if the shoe was on the other foot and UM athletics had budget issues, there would ABSOULUTELY be a thread on bcn).

That's all.
