I disagree. Both teams were really sloppy (though, I suppose you can credit that to great D by both teams) with quite a few mistakes. It felt like someone finally won in spite of themselves. Honestly reminded me of the Cal Poly game from 2015. Only difference was the PSU kicker made a longer field goal. Hats off to him on a great kick under lots of pressure. Clutch.

Ya, that kick was the definition of clutch. Pretty much the most pressure you can have for a kick. Down by 1 so you're not just breaking a tie but know if you miss you lose. Freshman kicker. In the loudest\best stadium in the FCS. Had never beaten um in that stadium. Hadn't won a D1 game since 2016. 52 yards out, against a coach that usually rocks it on special teams, blocked kicks, etc. I would have bet a lot of money that kid was going to miss that kick. :o

It seems to me that the team this year is coming out very flat at the beginning of games.

Curious, are we talking about how flat they looked jumping out 26-0 on UNI or in falling behind PSU 13-0...or how they were leading Poly 31-7 or trailing Sac 28-24? Or is this just a blanket statement and you are trying to make a dramatic point?

I felt sick the whole drive, but when we held them to such a long field goal, and seeing his erratic kicks in the beginning of the game, I actually felt pretty good we'd either block it, or he'd pull it.

Hats off to him. That was a hell of a kick.

Or trailing WIU 14-0? Or tied with DRAKE into the 2nd quarter? And at one point trailing Sac 28-17?

So you agree that the Griz have come out flat in every game? Has the entire team been flat to start every game or does it rotate between offense, defense, and special teams? Maybe they have come out flat in a few games, but I don't agree that it has been every game. Less a trend than what OP wants you to believe.

cal poly rolled right down the field on their first drives, too - they just self-destructed with fumbles. so i'd say the griz came out firing on all cylinders once so far this season - the first game.

They came out flat against WIU, Drake, Sac & PSU. They’re 2-2 in those games. They came out hair on fire against UNI and CP. They’re 2-0 in those games.

Have any team put the ball on the field 5 times in a game and see what their record is. I don't think this is a Griz only thing. Ball security. And remember, in spite of all of the woes, it took a 52 yard FG to beat us. Yes it was Portland State, but remember on any given Saturday...……… That's why we play the games on the field and not in the polls.

Agreed. I definitely hope the staff refocuses on ball security and turnovers this week in practice.

Young teams are up and down; we knew that at the start of the season. They will surprise us with wins and surprise us with loses. We're past the surprise loss, so let's get a surprise win at UND and get back on track. They're inconsistent kids, but they're our kids*....

*unless kem doesn't like the coach

I mean, I don't know exactly where I fall on this, but you raise a pretty solid point. It was coaching last year, but this year it's young players' inconsistencies. I think the skill positions last year were basically one year younger than this year. Except for the QB, who was even younger, and not the season starter.

Anyway, I'm not giving up, nor will I ever. I know this new staff will learn from this and make the necessary changes to ensure sure we beat State and make the playoffs. Go Griz!

So scoring 18 1st quarter points against WIU means they started flat? Was the defense flat to start the Drake and PSU games? Maybe some of these instances is less about being flat, and more about being average.

It wasn’t the 18 first quarter points. It was the being down 14-0 3 minutes in. Flat. Average. Tomayto. Tomahto....

So was the whole team flat? Maybe they just did a good job exploiting a weakness they saw? Not sure how that game started is necessarily flat.

For what worth......sideline announcer commented on how different the Griz sideline was after half vs. First half. That seems like a team that is A) flat. B) going through the motions because the think they can just show up and win C) hung over D) some combination of A/B/C

I don't disagree that they were flat as hell against PSU.
