CatsAttack said:This is actually really interesting information and defintiely shows just how impressive the UM football program has become.
Where did you get the data? Is it something you threw together yourself? I would be interested in seeing a more recent time period, like the last 10 years. I mean, it's great to look back 25 years, but players from 25 years ago are almost 50 now. It's almost like Navy talking about how amazing their quarterback history is because Roger Staubach won the Heisman in 1963.
Here's what we have if we take it from 2000.
The top four of this era are between Montana, Delaware, App. State and Georgia Southern.
*Youngstown didn't have enough success in this era to make the list.
*Once again I'll include MSU for the hell of it
National Championships-Runner Ups-Total Appearances
Appalachian St. 3- 0- 3
Montana 1-4-5
Delaware 1-2-3
Georgia Southern 1-0-1
Montana State 0-0- 0
-The next thing we will look at is total wins since 2000.
Montana 137
Appalachian State 119
Georgia Southern 102
Delaware 97
Montana State 79
-Now we will look at total Playoff appearances, playoff wins and winning pct.
Playoff appearances- wins- PCT.
Montana 11-21- .680
Appalachian State 10-19- .730
Georgia Southern 7-13- .680
Delaware 5-13- .760
Montana State 5-2- .280
-Last we'll look at number of conference championships since 2000.
Montana 11
App. State 6
Georgia Southern 5
Delaware 4
Montana State 5
Montana and App. stand out above the rest in this era. Who is the best depends on which way you slice it. App. has 2 more championships but Montana has 2 more appearances. Montana has by far the most overall wins with 18 more then App., 35 more the GSU, 40 more then Delaware and 58 more then MSU. Montana also has the most playoff births and wins with 11 births and 21 wins. App. is not far behind with 10 births and 19 wins and actually holds a slight pct. edge. GSU and Delaware were a little behind in the playoff category but in Delawares 5 appearances they got 13 wins and held a .760 pct. Montana had over twice the births of MSU and had 19 more playoff wins. Montana also nearly doubles App. in conference titles. It might also be worth noting that in this era App. is 0-2 against Montana. From 2000 on there is still no team that matches Montana's year to year consistency.
**In the 2000's Montana was the winningest team in all of college football. This includes Boise State,Texas and Oklahoma.
Montana 00-09 119 wins
Boise State 00-09 112 wins
Texas 00-09 110 wins
Oklahoma 00-09 110 wins
#1 Montana
#2 App. State
