Nice column by Kurt Helin at NBC Sports' ProBasketballTalk today about Will Cherry's chances to get picked up & added to an NBA team roster as the 3rd point guard.

The answer? Yes... according to info by Marc J. Spears, Cherry is "in talks" with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.

Here's the link: http://www.probasketballtalk.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Couldn't get the direct link. You'll have to scroll down the page a bit for the headline + photo of Will.

i'm hoping, of course, it's the cavs. they're going to get tons of publicity. they're going to be in the playoffs. if they get kevin love, they're going to win championships. it would be great for will to be a part of that.

in addition to the many breaks will made for himself, he received two big ones: dellevadova leaving after two games; and the new head coach, dave blatt, coaching the summer leage team. the two combined to give will a great audition.

and if he does go to camp with cleveland, he will receive another break, because lebron is going to love his game.

and i just have to sneak in this last observation--what a difference there is between a 23-year-old will cherry and a 19-year-old phenom--even if that 19-year-old is named andrew wiggins or dante exum. goes straight to my point about redshirt years. montana can compete, but only if they bring older experienced squads to the big dance.

After watching him play as well as he did in the summer league, I wonder how much an impact a healthy Will Cherry would have made against Syracuse his SR year? I doubt it would have been enough to upset them. I do believe the game would have been another 15 points closer. Then again, so much went wrong with that matchup in that game. I like our matchup against Wisconsin much better than the Syracuse matchup.

If/When Cherry makes a NBA roster, I doubt whatever name growler is going by then will give Will credit and admit he is outright wrong about him. There are a few others, other than Growler as well. I remember a few egrizzers also giving me a hard time over Will's career when I posted multiple times I liked his chances at making the NBA, if healthy. Will Cherry had NBA caliber defensive skills and instincts from the 1ST time I saw him play live as a FR for the GRIZ. It was just a matter of being healthy and improving his offense. I really want to thank Citay for his keen reports, summaries, and observations of Cherry before he stepped on the court as a GRIZ. Citay, you sold me on Cherry well before any of us saw him play collegiately.

Speaking of the GRIZ and PG's, anyone care to venture a guess how much Mario Dunn will benefit from Decuire being head coach? Decuire will make him into a true PG and ball distributor. I hope Cherry and Dunn are the 1st of a long line of Bay Area PG's GRIZ NATION will get to enjoy for many years to come.

Got to admit, with Will Cherry flirting with the NBA, I am much more excited for the NBA season this season than normal. Cherry and Lebron back to Cleveland has me loving the NBA again. Good luck Will Cherry, his hard work is about to pay off for him!!! :thumb:
