Monte Being Sued

PoneZone--I've worked both plaintiffs and defense. The defense attorneys generally get paid by the hour, period--by the insurance company or clients. They are the only ones who benefit by driving up the hours they work or the cost of the case, that I know of. The more hours they work, the more documents they generate, the more they get paid--as long as the client is willing to pay it. The client/insurance company generally pays the costs of the case, too, so the defense attorneys don't have months or years of carrying that cost. The plaintiff's attys who I've worked for only get paid if they win--period. If not, they pay the $20,000+ in costs and figure it's the cost of doing business, plus the loss of months or hours worth of time down the drain. Could you, as a consumer who'd been injured, afford to come up with $20,000+ out of your own pocket to finance a case that--right or wrong--you may or may not win? And don't say that a case you don't win shouldn't have been brought in the first place---it doesn't always depend on the merits of the case, tho hopefully it does most of the time. Good cases do get lost, and bad cases do get won. Hopefully, if you work for an attorney or go to one, they will look at the case on its merits and only take the meritorious cases. BUT you're right---there's no reason for you to feel sorry for attorneys. They choose the work they do, just like you choose the work you do. In any case, this is wayyy off topic, and I apologize to the board. Go Griz!!
