From the audio, it seemed like the Grizz we're going for A good shot or a foul. I can't believe there wasn't a foul called, from the description of the play. I had no video, so can someone give me some insight on the play. By the way, I was listening to the Wyoming audio version.

The final play looked to be going to Rorie but he slipped on his drive (which he had problems with all night) and had to kick out and they just couldn't get a good shot after that. Walter had to force a contested shot. There was little chance a foul would have been called and I didn't think one was warranted. It's a shame after that game they didn't pull out the W.

I was very impressed with Sayeed and Jared. Both were much smoother than I thought they would be at this point, especially jared. It was a really fun game to see live. The crowd was good at the end. Rorie was frustrated at throughout the game but he decided he had enough towards the end and you could see it on the layups he got late in the game. We are going to see more of that this season when we need a spark. I think he and pridgett may be the two best on our team at creating which is something we haven't had as much of recently. The high low game between Fab and Jared was great tonight. I look forward to seeing.more of that.

Bummer That they didn't get the win but there is a lot of good to take away from this game!

No offense meant, not questioning the effort, not questioning the superior knowledge , simply just wondering out loud. Expect a great season, lots of talent for future, but still just a question lingering or maybe just an opinion..is that okay?

Samuelsons footwork and soft touch remind me a bit of Andrew Srait. I sure like what we saw from our young guys tonight. It's the deepest bench I recall seeing in a while.

Tough loss tonight, but hope they learn a lesson in finishing games. Upset over NC State anyone?

THX for the update! I'm with you on how well everyone played tonight. I was glad to see one of them was a Billings boy. Since Oguine was my favorite player last year, I can't wait for him to get in the mix.

Basketball teams, in particular, seem to need the sparkplugs. After Jordan Gregory graduated, it seemed like Griz still had the talent, but needed the sparkplug. It's been a long time since I've seen one kid influence a team like Jordan Gregory, starting when he spent most of his time on the bench as a Frosh, and had the Bench doing all sorts of stuff. Pridgett has a MR level quality. Samuelson is a real surprise.

Just home from the game. What a terrific game, too bad the score and refs were not in favor of the GRIZ. The 1st half officiating was very one sided toward Wyoming. Travis, just asked them to call it the same on both sides, to have a fair game. The ref apparently did not like that too much. Travis was right though. Toward the end of the 1st half he also was verbally telling the fans to help him and the team out. I absolutely loved that. After that, the fans did get after it rest of the game.

During pregame, I saw how lanky, tall, and athletic Wyoming appeared to be. I wondered how well the GRIZ could handle that kind of length? As it was, I was pleasantly pleased, the GRIZ handled their size quite well. The GRIZ have a lot of athletes, just shorter ones. I was bragging to my brother about Sayeed Pridgett before he made his appearance. Thankfully Pridgett proved me right. He was so impressive in every aspect of his game. He even took a butt chewing by Travis very well, after a defensive breakdown. His response to Travis "Alright Coach, I got it." Not many Freshman can take butt chewings very well. It was amazing how well he reacted to it. As a coach, that is something that really sells a player. Pridgett is fearless taking it the hole, and is an amazing passer. I can see why he can run the team as a point guard or point forward. This kid is smooth, athletic, fluid, and has all the intangibles. Like Oguine from last season, Pridgett will be an impact Freshman.

Speaking of Freshman, Samuelson is much better than I expected. The comparison to Strait is dead on. I told my brother on the way home, that his play reminded me of Strait. Samuelson is better FT shooter though. His hands are amazing as well. He caught every pass that came his way, and he converts strong.

Wyoming is fortunate that all the GRIZ 3 point shooters struggled with the 3. Rorie, Wright, Gfeller, Moorehead and Lopez, all struggled, despite having open looks. Dunn was too hesitant to shoot it. Pridgett did not get many looks from 3 and shot a knuckler on the one I do recall. This team has a lot of talented 3 point shooters. The games when every one of them struggle from 3, will be few and far between. Most games 1 or 2 will be hitting the 3's.

I was also impressed with Krslovic's passing and rebounding. He even hit a really nice jump hook. Moorehead rebounded terrific in the 1st half, but very few rebounds in the 2nd half.

This team will get better as they mature and get to know one another. The return of Oguine will help immensely. It will be interesting to see what kind of rotation DeCuire will use upon Oguine's return.

The GRIZ do need to cut down on the turnovers (1st half turnovers killed them, 2nd half was terrific), hit 3's more consistently, hit more FT's, and play defense like they did in the 2nd half. Despite the loss, I have a great feeling about this team, even with the lack of height. I have a feeling they will beat Wyoming in the rematch. I hope they show well in the upcoming 5 game road trip. There is a lot to like about this team.

I forgot to note this. With Wyoming's length, they knew the GRIZ would look to penetrate. I liked the strategy the GRIZ used, just wish they had slightly different personnel for the final possession. I told my brother the GRIZ should have 5 perimeter shooters out there for the final possession. I told him with Fab in there, Wyoming could clog the lane and limit the room our penetrating guards would get. Sure enough, that is exactly what happened.


I hope in the future, in a situation like that, the GRIZ go with any combination of Moorehead, Gfeller, Rorie, Wright, Oguine (when he is healthy), Pridgett or Dunn. That kind of personnel forces the opponent's bigs out of the paint. With the speed and ballhandling of Rorie, Wright, Pridgett, Oguine, Dunn, that puts a lot of pressure on Defense. Then having 2 deadeye shooters like Gfeller and/or Moorehead camping from 3 that makes a last second possession even more difficult to defend. Don't give me the part about Krslovic being a great rebounder. He is not a natural score, questionable FT shooter, and the athleticism of our guards are great for rebounding as well.

The fouls were pretty much even.. even though 50 of them were called.

Wyoming is fortunate that all the GRIZ 3 point shooters struggled with the 3. Rorie, Wright, Gfeller, Moorehead and Lopez, all struggled, despite having open looks. Dunn was too hesitant to shoot it. Pridgett did not get many looks from 3 and shot a knuckler on the one I do recall. This team has a lot of talented 3 point shooters. The games when every one of them struggle from 3, will be few and far between. Most games 1 or 2 will be hitting the 3's.

I would argue that Montana is lucky Wyoming started the second half 1-11 otherwise it may have looked like a repeat of the first half.

My summary will largely repeat what has already been said by various posters.

Refs weren't too bad, but several calls in the last several minutes of the first half hurt the Griz momentum and allowed Wyo. to come back and take lead at halftime. In 2d half, one ref in the corner made a charging call against Griz who was set on the other side of the basket across court (when the closer ref hesitated). Appeared to be a terrible call, and one a ref on the side and low can't possibly see. Too many unnecesary fouls called on both sides by refs.

As stated, too bad all UM 3 pt shooters were off. Lots of missed good or pretty good looks.

Griz are deep and talented. Played 11 guys in first half, including 10 alot. Even the 11th could play. I believe UM started 2 different guys in 2d half, Pridgett and Samuelson, and that's when UM made a nice run. Travis kept that team on the floor for a long time. As mentioned, the Wyo. cold shooting at that time helped, but part of that was D. UM had some guys with 3 fouls at halftime, and that probably impacted the rotation.

Wyo. is good. Can shoot the 3. Can defend. Seems to have depth.

Samuelson can definitely play. Too bad he's not a few inches taller. He is good at coming to the hoop to get the dish, and finishing. Better at that than Strait. Does play with his back to basket like Strait. Quicker too, but doesn't have the power or the size of Strait and never will.

UM defense was generally good, but some lapes and some guys seemed not to have kept us to the man as much as I thought they could have. Needs to improve. Especially agianst a good 3 point shooting tema like Wyo.

Missed UM freethrows as the 2d half went on, hurt. Kryslovic is a very good, strong, smart and steady player. It would be nice to have 2 of him. He looks slimmer this year. Made multiple nices plays, especially near the basket. Rebounds, tips, keeping ball alive, etc.

The team is fairly athletic and will be moreso with Oguine.

I thought some guys hesitated during the game and at the end, in interms of whether to shoot or pass. This will get figured out and help. Don't know why Wright isn't up to his last season's strong game, yet. Dunn might be a bit hesitatnt too.

Agree with the turnover comment. Think UM had 9 at halftime.

Don't know exactly what caused the bench technical late in first half, but that seemed to keep Travis less vocal in 2d half. Crowd of just over 3,000 was decent, but I think the crowd needs to stand late in the game on key defensive stands, not just cheer. In past years, some people bitch about people standing in front of them. Travis tried to get the crowd up and louder late in game several times, but with only mild success.

This team has alot more talent and potential than I had realized. It seems like the Griz are always just one big man away, in recent years.

Riley is adequate as a PBP guy, but he often comes off as an over eager gee whiz nimrod whose voice has yet to change yet while waiting to buy his first razor. Listening to the mature measured delivery of Wyoming's longtime guy Dave Walsh reinforces the opinion that master Riley could have used a few seasons in the minors before aspiring to a D-1 college gig. Learfield and Wyo were smart to lock up their guy thru 2019. In the meantime, I miss Mick...
