Montana vs. Texas

I don't think we are done, but I hope this is a wake up call. We have sort of been coasting along on our reputation while other BSC schools have been working hard to try to catch up. Our recruiting budget is woefull, most BSC schools are spending much more than us. MSU outspent us last year $408,000 to $170,000 in recruiting.

I've seen these numbers in other threads and wonder if anyone really checked them ...
For the year 7/1/09 - 6/30/10 the numbers come out like this (I didn't look at all the BSC schools but it's not quite as lop sided as it's been depicted).
MSU $271,401
UM $168,456
EWU $148,635

O'Days secret email stated that our recruiting budget is 7th in the BSC. Not good when it is also said that Missoula is one of the most expensive places to recruit from.

So The grizzlies and longhorns have a lot in common. Last year we both made the National Championship and lost. This year we are either not going to the playoffs or not going to a bowl game (TEXAS). Leadership was lacking at the quarterback position.

One huge difference I see. The Longhorn fans know it will be turned around and will be in National Champion talks again. But for whatever reason, Fans, mostly fairweather, think that the Grizzlies are done and screwed.

P.S. I know what all you guys will say. It is because of Pflu! I say screw that! Tell me why else besides PFLU!

One of my best friends here in Missoula is from Austin, Texas. He flew back there for a big game last year. This year, we were at a bar after the Griz game and I pointed out that Texas was on TV (and losing) and he said "they suck this year. Who cares?" As fair weather as they get. He'll be back on the bandwagon when they are good again, just as all Griz fans will be too. This is not a Montana-only thing.

 Either that email was the work of fiction we all suspected it was or someone is lying to U.S. Department of Education (which could impact your federal funding). The numbers I quoted were off the Equity in Athletics Data Analysis Site which is sponsorded by the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. "This analysis cutting tool was designed to provide rapid customized reports for public inquiries relating to equity in athletics data. The data are drawn from the OPE Equity in Athletics Disclosure Website database. This database consists of athletics data that are submitted annually as required by the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA)."
I'm not a big fan of Title IX but it has required some transparancy in athletic funding which is helpful.

It just seemed like the football gods were against us this year. So many things aligned just right. Fate seemed against us, unlike last year, when the Griz could do no wrong until the championship.

I can't wait for next season to see Pflu destroy Weber, MSU, and EWU, while making it to to the playoffs.

You say the fair weathered fans are talking doom, then you have the dumbest statement I have ever seen. That there was no qb leadership. Ok moron, the 2 qb's flourished under Hauck, then they struggled under Pfluffy. Point is that neither qb was built to run a system that Pfluffy put in. And to answer your question about the only reason we can come up with is Pfluffy is the worst coach in fb. Well I want you to remember back to all of those sereis that were wasted for JJ to come and hand off twice and then throw a incompletion. If you have confidence in what you saw then you have bigger problems than what we can fix here on egriz.

Wow. Just when I though we couldn't get anymore retards on this site.

Did you ever notice that the people who claim O'Day's email was bullshit are the fans of all the poor schools with small to no fanbases like EWU, NAU, and the Patriot league schools? Notice that the 170k figure that JOD used jibes with the 168.5K number on the DOE website.

The thing about whistle blowing (you silly little girl named fool) is it doesn't happen unless things are obscenely dire or someone is trying to get revenge.

Since Oday had pretty much no motivation to seek revenge against anyone (our president was on the way out, and he was the head of the playoff selection committee) it stands to reason that things must be pretty fucking bad.

Just this year we watched the largest FCS conference in it's history get formed. We watched two of our recent playoff opponents go FBS (TXST and Umass), and we saw the playoffs expanded to 20 teams. All those things while schools are seeking to CUT skyrocketing costs!

I'm sure there's more than a few Longhorn fans who are screaming for Mack's head this year. Hell, LSU wanted Les Miles' head the same year he won a championship. They still do. The bigger the fanbase, the bigger the sense of entitlement, the worse the problem
