Montana vs. South Dakota Game Thread

Glad to be back in Washington/Grizzly, but IMO, it seemed like the game was a little boring!??!

Good game from the Griz, watched on the internet. Lots of positives to take away from the game, balanced offensive attack, good O Line, forced turnovers etc., what's not to like? First game of the season and mistakes will be made. Good luck next week vs Appy State, get a win for the Big Sky! Looking forward to the game in our town this year at Eastern. Bringing in special Ref's from MSU, LOL. Also thought QB McKinney was pretty damn good also.

I think it was a weird feeling game, all around.

Normally, when your offense puts up nearly 600 yards, you score like crazy, but we weren't finding the end zone, despite moving at will.

I remember looking at the stats in the 3rd quarter and thinking "We're down 16-24, but we have 400 yards of offense? WTF? That can't be right..."

... Good first win with a lot of young guys. They could have folded after falling behind but kept their heads and finished strong! :thumb:
As I said elsewhere, this was one of the most impressive -- and encouraging -- things about the game for me. The offense came out and marched, and then the D seem to re-assert itself.

Muffed punt = 3 points
Int for TD = 7 points
Blown coverage = 7 points

Take away 3 plays and Griz win easily. Obviously we can't take away those three plays and the scores "count", but other than those 3 plays USD had exactly ONE sustained drive. That bodes very well.

You can nit pick the opening game all you want, but who cares? A win is a win. They don't have to be pretty all the time.

Great game and result for the opener. This team is well ahead of most past teams coming out of the gate. Specials teams kicking has to get better, it will cost us a game or 2, as is.

The OL was amazing, but then again, the game plan made their job easier. No way around it, the run blocking was amazing, we will see how much of that was us or SD defense. Right now the OL is well ahead of what I expected. The most encouraging part for the OL was getting some valuable game time for the depth, which needs to be done.

The OL did not have to worry much about pass blocking, the game plan was, get rid of the ball, and go with your decision. I think that was to help the OL, and to develop McKinney's confidence. Honestly, the decision making was taken out of the passing game. The test will be, when the offense needs McKinney to take time to scan the field. Will he make the right decisions, will he still be composed, will the OL protect him long enough to see the play develop?

I was shocked SD did nothing to stop what we were doing. I have a feeling the App State game will be a much better indicator to get a read on the offense.

By the way, can someone please tell me, how can anyone bitch about over 500 yards of offense? That running game was a sign of good things to come! That offense has attitude this year.

Also note: Rosenbach's game plan and philosophy, is an early A +. 1 game in, and i am much more confident with the play caller, and planner.
