Montana vs North Dakota State on ESPN (2015)

As far as the Fargodome name goes , no it is not a dome. The original design for the stadium was a 28k indoor dome that would have looked very similar to the Tacomadome, with an air supported roof. City officials decided an air supported dome stadium would not be a good idea due to the extreme weather Fargo gets and to save money scaled back the size of the entire project to a 19k steel supported stadium. The building was already named at this point so they just kept it as the Fargodome despite the building no longer being a dome.

Couple thoughts here.

2.) CDAGRIZ. I get that you have a big chubby for your stadium. Let it go man. It is a beautiful stadium and is probably the best in the FCS. Despite NDSU playing in a gym or whatever you call it, NDSU has a nearly identical home winning percentage inside the Fargodome to what UM has at WaGrizz, has never been beat inside the Fargodome in the playoffs, and managed to win 3 national championships (maybe 4 after next weekend) to UM's 2. I guess the dome has treated NDSU fine.

Agree on all points.

Makes a ton of sense. Can you imagine what it would have taken to change the name to the much more appropriate Fargo Arena? My wife had to fill out a two-page form to change her name when we got married. She got a hand cramp and nearly called off the wedding.

Figured I would give you guys a history lesson on it since you are so obsessed with it. I guess most people around Fargo or attended NDSU tend not to dwell over it as much as Egriz posters.

I definitely appreciate the history lesson. I suppose some people are just curious why NoDaks continue to call a building that looks like a juvenile detention center or a jumbo Jehovah's Witness hall a dome. You know, liberal arts teaching us about historical architecture and all.

And, for the record, it doesn't appear that "most people around Fargo or attended NDSU" dwell over many details. NDSU is UM's next opponent. Who is yours? Thanks for stopping by eGriz.com!

Now that you have cleared that up, can you solve another mystery for us? Why do NDSU fans have such an obsession with the letter Z? I always see NDSU fans add an extra z to Griz(z), and of course the famous Bizon instead of Bison. Is it a cultural thing?

Auto spell puts Griz to Grizz on my phone. No clue why but I don't check it often. Also , Grizzlies is spelled with 2 Z's so I suppose some assume it is abbreviated to include both Z's. As far as Bizon go, ESPN started that shit. Never seen a sign say Bizon before those guys started following NDSU football.

Ya the addition of the Z in Bizon is really just a splooge droplet left over from the ESPN circle jerk over the Bison brand.

We will startup this game talk about august 1. Yawn after we win 4 peat we gonna need a summer to chill on a beach and savor it before dealing with this game. This will be 1st year since 2005 without a fbs game so you won't see too much excitement for this or other non-conf games in 2015

Where are Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen??
Looks like the 1990s Chicago Bulls pre-game starting line-ups to me.

We used to call it the FargoBarn when I played at Concordia. We played there a few times. Saw some good concerts there too.

Ok, I'll play that game...

Here's a list of false starts for both stadiums, including delay of game penalties due to crowd noise in 2014:

Washington-Grizzly Stadium:
Central Washington - 2
South Dakota - 2
Northern Colorado - 7
UC Davis - 0
Sacramento State - 2
Montana State - 1
San Diego - 5

Total: 7 games, 19 false starts, including delay of game penalties.

Fargodome:
Incarnate Word - 1
Montana - 2
Southern Illinois - 0
Indiana State - 3
South Dakota State - 0
Youngstown State - 1
South Dakota State - 4
Coastal Carolina - 3
Sam Houston State - 3

Total: 9 games, 17 false starts, including delay of game penalties

Even with two more home games than Montana had, NDSU was still two false starts short of Montana. If you take away the last two home games that NDSU had, NDSU would have only had 11 false starts in 7 games to Montana's 19. Stats don't lie. Washington-Grizzly Stadium is clearly louder than the Fargodome. :coffee:
False starts/delay of game penalties are a decent indicator of noise level in a stadium, but do you know what is an even better indicator of noise levels in a stadium? Studies that include equipment specifically designed to measure noise levels.

Go stand in a grain silo and yell...than stand in a swimming pool and yell....tell me which one an instrument is going to pick up on better.....once you get to a certain noise level it doesn't matter anymore...its how suffocating a stadium feels that's more affective than 2-3 decibels.

Way to kill another thread MsMaroo. Just when I was catching up on my history lesson.

I'm not arguing which is stadium provides more of a home field advantage. Obviously both teams have done VERY well at home. My response was only to get'em_griz, who said that "Washington-Grizzly Stadium is clearly louder than the Fargodome." I just provided the proof that his statement was not accurate. Nothing more. I don't know each team's record in their respective stadiums, so I can't say which provides more of a home field advantage. Even if I did take the time to look up the records, simply looking at wins and losses (or penalties against the opposing teams) does not tell the entire story. You would need to take into account how good those teams are without the home field advantage (or how many penalties the opposing teams typically have), and even with that, it is still somewhat subjective.
