No it didn't. We do not have the bigs yet to compete with these teams. Rorie, Pridgett, yes. But the cavalry doesn't arrive till next year.

Anderson will be part of the bigs "cavalry." Any updates on his status and redshirt (or not?) Also, Oguine will be a big addition later this season (hopefully very soon!)

Alphonso has decided to redshirt this year - his knee hasn't responded as quickly as hoped. If you get a chance to chat with him, stop him and strike up a conversation. He is a very bright and personable guy.

And obviously thinking long term...makes him bright AND smart. This will help him with his long term health, give him a year to strengthen it as well. Hate to say it, but definitely this team looks good for next year
I am excited for this game and season as well. Could've won the first and should've won the second. Good start I think. These guys may be able to make a good run. Love them playing some big boys too, as this will get them experience for the entire season.
Small hijack here...with the USC game and foul situation, I'm old enough to remember when the same things happened to Gonzaga (yes, the mid-major comparison school) when they were starting their run. I hate comparisons like that, but it's a learning experience and gives the boys confidence to play with those schools. Will pay dividends in a year or 2, no doubt.

Well, their big guys are ok but even their web site tells of difficulty in stopping the 3..of course, they are good at it too....that doesn't make it less interesting....I remember Vermont, Valpo, Davidson...they had shooters no bigs and did ok...have faith...if they lose well, the lose. But to go into that game thinking you are not good enough, is depressing to think about. I think our guys are young enough and exposed to street ball enough to not back down....

Why? It's a US Territory...unless this is in the British Virgin Islands. I've been to St Thomas many times, with nothing more than a Driver's License.

I agree why would you need anymore of a visa for the US VIs than you do for the US mainland. On a side note, as I recall, they have a really small arena. Weird they have such a big tournament in such a small venue. Another side note, St John is the best VI.

Not sure but he is from Africa and visa might be invalid there. He averages 17 points per game, a freshman guard. They do have other talent for sure...

Dennis Smith - Future Top 3 NBA draft pick
Yurtseven - 7'0" and future NBA 1st Round pick
BeeJay Anya - now a senior 7'8" wingspan, big body that none of the griz will move.
Abdul-Malik - returning 13 ppg scorer
Maverick Rowan - returning 13 ppg scorer
Markell Johnson - electric recruit, though probably won't do much this year. with the other talent on roster
Terry Henderson - solid player at West Virginia before transferring

Very well might crack the top-10 at some point this season.

A couple things: 1.) I think all games from this tournament are on CBS Sports network, or at least available to stream. 2.) Georgia Southern is also undersized and grabbed 20 Oboards against NC State and I think out rebounded them by 2. I don't think UM will out rebound NC State, but I think they'd have a much better chance with Oguine healthy for the game. 3. Kapita is a forward. The freshman star point guard is Dennis Smith

Freshman forward Ted Kapita will miss N.C. State’s three games in the Paradise Jam tournament in the Virgin Islands due to a student visa issue, coach Mark Gottfried said on Tuesday.

N.C. State is working with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to get Kapita’s student visa paperwork updated. There is a risk if Kapita leaves the country, he would have trouble getting back in through customs.

Kapita is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and spent last year at DME Academy in Melbourne, Fla. He is not in jeopardy of being deported from the country but leaving the United States, even for a U.S. territory, would require updated I-20 paperwork that has Kapita affiliated with N.C. State.

The very first benefit of the schedule upgrade: The Griz are on TV. Real TV. (As opposed to Big Sky TV.) This will happen often as we play these quality teams. A bonanza for Griz fans, players, recruits, the entire program. Thank you Mr. DeCuire.

:thumb: Yes. They've already been on Pac 12 Network to a broad western audience. They'll also be on SEC Network when they play Ole Miss.

Ditto. Thanks Coach DeCuire.

Paradise jam has 6 total games televised on CBS Sports Network. The two semifinal games, the 3rd place game, and the championship game plus two opening round games (one of which is the Griz/NC State game.) The rest of the games are supposed to be streamed on the paradise jam website.

YES!! National exposure. Maybe even better than winning the game. However, I would like to win the game. And we could've had the game. National exposure definitely helps with recruiting.
