Montana State

Takes down PAC 12 Cal, 63-60. Matt Logie is an impressive coach. More good news for the conference.

Caught the second half of this game on the Pac12 network.

When I tuned in, the Cats had an 11 point lead. But then Cal turned up on the heat on defense, the crowd got into it, and the Cats went stone cold for three minutes, cutting their lead to four. Logie called a timeout. And on the next two possessions, the Cats got layups off designed plays--just what I've always hoped the Griz could do when these cold spells hit. Somebody then hit a big trey and the Cats weathered the storm. They've got a 6'7" 250 pound sophomore transfer, Brandon Walker, who was a beast inside against Cal's seven-footer. He'll be a load for Big Sky opponents.

Gave up watching the Houston game. Lacerating to watch a team as inept offensively as are our Griz.

Cal is no Houston, but it's still apparent that Matt Logie is a helluva good coach. His team runs plays, moves away from the ball, cuts to the to the basket. He inherited a decimated roster but once he gets his players, watch out. Montana State could build another dynasty under his tutelage.

Hasn't Cal lost to a couple of BSC teams now?

Don’t think so. They lost to Pacific. That program was an expensive dumpster fire. It’ll take Mark Madsen time to turn it around.

I watched the first half of cat/Bears game. Rocky is no slouch, shot the 3 ball well, rebounded well and played an up tempo game. On the other hand the cats looked out of sync and didn’t see anyone that impressed me on the cat team.

I'd like to laugh and make fun of them for losing to Rocky, but I think there's a very real chance that we're gonna lose to Tech next week

It'd be fun to laugh...but I remember when the Griz lost to tech in.....Sayeeds last year? 2019? 2020 or something....maybe it was 2018? First year without Rorie and Oguine?

I watched the game & was pretty impressed with Rocky. They had a very tight, six-man rotation, played disciplined O and got double-digit scoring from 4 players, outscoring the Cats 38-28 in the paint. They got rattled for a bit when a panicked MSU squad started pressuring them, but Rocky's point guard Jesse Owens (cool name!) was unflappable. No trash talk here: all Montana D2 & NAIA squads are competitive this season... I'd certainly rather see the Griz & Cats play Montana schools than some of the lower level teams we've been watching lately.

I watched this game as well. Hats off to Rocky, they led this game wire to wire. Good D was played on both sides. MSU turned them over quite a bit. However, MSU wasn't rebounding well and had a poor shooting night. At least that is the way I saw it.

I don't care how good the NAIA/D11 team is, it's not a good look to lose to them on your home floor. It seems to happen once or twice a year in the BSC and it is certainly not helpful for conf. rankings. It's not the end of the world and MSU will get better, playing the kind of D that their coach preaches. My assessment of MSU as one of the bottom 3 in the BSC has not changed.
