LadyGriz Montana State Game Thread

I know it's a different sport, but I was thinking if we had a Peyton Winge or a Michael Wortham on this LG team, they would probably be gone. I guess the good news is we don't. Izzy apparently saw the big crash coming, and she hit the " eject " button last year. !!! But who needs a 6-4 center averaging 15.5 points per game on a 14-5 Cleveland State team anyway ? Or 5 African-American girls on a 15 player roster from places like the Bronx plus a Black assistant female coach ? Not the LG, that's who. !!! I mean, NY City is not in our backyard, and it's not like we could hire a Black woman assistant and recruit regional big cities like Seattle-Tacoma, Portland, SF-Oakland, LA, Phoenix, Denver, etc. Our speed, size and athleticsm are just fine ... or are they ?
Izzy wasn’t going to play just as she didn’t towards end of last year. Too slow and didn’t averaged only 7.7 for LG last year.

Outside of Waddington, who is going to get an offer to play somewhere equivalent? Even Waddington won’t make out as good as Macey Huard.
The portal dates open April 6 and close April 20, individual purgatives of players varies to be sure. My opinion specific to Avery, she would have plenty of opportunities. Christa Redpath former LG commented, if I heard correctly, Avery had 20 Div 1 offers as a frosh. Some of our players could transfer to Div 1 schools, or NAIA levels...it depends. Some/all may stay put, after all it's a paid for college education. We have a total of 7 coaching staff, they likewise seek movement that's the nature of the business, triggered sometimes by impending direction and relative stability the school and obviously contracts.

You’re right. If you saw any of her play before college she never played selfish. For her to reach her potential she needs to become the face and leader of the team.
Agree, looks like LG are loosening up some, bringing Avery out front at least. Avery is best as a ball handling guard, shooter, dribble drive, great eye for the court, assists, 2nd attempts and bounds. Game time today...we'll see!

Macey was gone before the last season even started. She came to us for one reason and that was to play with her sister for her senior year then go into the portal. Macey had zero intentions to play 4 years as a lady griz.
Yeah I was just commenting on their freshman numbers. Macey quit the team as they were playing in the WNIT.

Re-warching thay video. Nate had something figured out in the 2nd quarter. Doesn't want to give away secrets because he doesn't want the Cats to fix it for the next time in Missoula. Or Boise.

The only thing that zone does is give Binford and staff something else to prepare for next time.

After watching the zone possessions its a basic 2-3 with guards starting side to side or tandem. Forwards play a little higher to take away immediate 3 attempts from wings, then they bump down to corners. The center stays in the paint and they will live with the FT depth jumper if taken. Similar to Syracuse used implement.

If LG go to the 2-3 again you will see more zone off like the start of the second half. Start 5 out and place players in the gray areas to cause confusion with who has who. This also spreads the zone out and then allows for dribble drives, but what MSU did do in the second half was place someone in the high post cutting from behind the guards to get in the meat of the zone and them pick it apart with passing.

Watching today, she struggled. I found myself wondering if she needs a Mack Konig to feed her the ball. An elite distributor. They really had her confounded with their defense. But the boards and free throws down the end were huge. 4 players in double figures today and one off the bench.

It looks like she isn’t trusting her shot down low. Finished strong. Good team win today. Let’s build off it. I’m not ready to give up yet
