It’s cat week and as we all expected – this weekend comes down to who wins the Big Sky. Montana and Montana State are clearly the best two teams in the conference and 2 of the 3 or 4 best teams in the FCS and this Saturday the regular season will be solved in Washington Grizzly Stadium. I’m super bummed to miss tonight’s GFP so I’m putting this together early as I fly home.

The 2025 Bobcats are not the Cats of the prior decade we’ve seen, they can throw the ball in addition to run it. Their defense is as tough and mean as every and they top a lot of charts from the success they’ve had. In the Big Sky preseason poll MSU was picked to win the conference and had the 2nd most all conference players (behind only UC Davis). The Cats dropped their first two games but haven’t lost since and per the playoff seeding polls all of the FCS pollsters who know more than any of us, combined, have a 2 loss MSU team poised ahead of an undefeated Montana.

You chicken.

"I really see this playing out one of two ways:

1. It’s a tight back and forth game with both teams making some big plays as the day goes on. One team either has a clutch play / moment late (or in OT) that puts the divide trophy in their hands. I see this as a complete coin toss on who pulls it off. Being it’s at our house I’d give an ever so slight tip to Montana and we see some wild 31-28 type of game.

2. It’s a blowout, and based on this season’s outcomes, not in favor of Montana. Taco Dowler has a record day, Lamson runs and passes all over a chaotic Grizzly defense, and there’s a few big ST moments that give a surge to the cats. The Montana O-line is shut down by the Cat D-line and without needing extra help the cat LB’s help in the pass game and prevent Ah Yat and company from being real dangerous in the passing game. MSU will roll and Griz fans are pouring out by the 3rd quarter.

Obviously I’m hoping for option #1. Let’s GO GRIZ and FTC!"

This scouting report is remarkably similar to 2023
Seems the only difference is you've gotten more cynical as this year goes on.

This Griz team has yet to play it's best football and they're going to on Saturday. They're going to find a way to gut out a win 35-31

Bobcats looked completely beatable against Davis. Had Davis executed, caught passes and played even slightly better on defense, it would have been a very close game. The Griz have a lot more offensive weapons and the D stiffened against the long passing game. The Griz are at home and that energy will help carry them to victory. Write it down.

LOL - I'm really torn about this and I don't want to be a downer and go with option 2

I love it! I have become more cynical, and not on purpose I don't think haha. My biggest worries really are the thin Grizzly secondary and the Griz OL vs Cat DL matchup.

Here's one thing I've been thinking about. We obviously have some injuries on defense, do the cats have any injuries at all right now? I really can't think of any. I know Paul Brott went down on Saturday but he was the press conference today so that makes me think he's good to go. Health wise I think they're in a much better spot than us right now.

I know alot of people think that both teams will score 20-30 points each.
I think it would be wild if the final was something like 12-9 or 9-6

Keep Dowler and Davis contained, put pressure on Lamson, and high decimal crowd noise will put msu in a tough spot on offense. On defense kittens will have their hands full with #3, #4, #6 #2 and whatever tight end is in the game. I have a lot of confidence Ah Yat will have a good game and do enough to win this one. I would be even more confident if #11 and #5 on defense were on the field.
Bert Scott (an accounting professor) once told me that sometimes statistics will tell you everything but the truth. That’s how I feel about this game. This one will come down to match ups and I feel we match up good with the kittens. I’m sure the offensive line will be fine. We just need to start without a hitch!
At home :
kittens………………………………24
Montana Grizzlies…………………31

Go Griz!!

I think generally they’re pretty healthy (as healthy as anyone can be after 11 games)

Great write up Brint. Cats have as good of a defense as I can ever remember….. but it is so so hard to win in Missoula. I’m concerned that Lamson might get somewhat rattled by and pressure/and environment. If we end up having multiple three and outs the Griz most certainly will eventually have their opportunities to put up points. Crucial for the Cats to extend drives or it could be a route by the Griz.

For the first time maybe ever we are VERY healthy going into the brawl. Not saying that promises a win but it’s a great feeling and one I’ve never had before going into this game!
Griz will win by at least 2 scores maybe more but no less. lots of tears traveling back to bozo....
Was waiting for this prediction from you to finally feel better about this game in Missoula. Lol.

Makes a 12-0 season that much sweeter. Beating a healthy kitten team…..lol

What does Brott do when he gets to the QB? He has no sacks and 2 TFL. 13 tackles. Did I goof up his stats?

This is a crock of …. We all know Griz fans won’t be pouring out of the stadium in the 3rd quarter.

The majority of them will still be out from halftime. Nobody will be leaving. They wouldn’t know if the bubs were ahead or not. If they were ahead Montana fans would watch as the Griz rolled out three fourth quarter touchdowns to crush little brother once again. It is a thing of beauty.
