Montana State Bobcats Scouting Report

We lost by a combined 13 points (6 to ewu and 7 to sac state). Points off turnovers was 17 points(10 to ewu and 7 to sac state). Protect the football and we have a damn good chance in this game. I’m a bit tired of all the accolades given to msu. We have as a good a team and we’re in Missoula. Mark it down Montana’s defense will hold serve!

Go Griz!!

C'mon, Benjamin. 160 yards/game is dogshit. No advantage there, bro

Agreed that UM has an advantage at QB. McKay is still developing and is streaky. He can look very good some games (or half games) then throw some balls horrible passes. McKay also has a tendency to become rattled with pressure. If he is able to remain composed facing a very good Griz D and playing at WA Griz Stadium will be a big determining factor of the game.

Catfan that is a good summary.

I've seen McKay kind of like Bo Levi Mitchell (though not nearly as talented). Back in the day, there was "the Good Bo" and "the Bad Bo". You never knew in advance which was going to play on Saturday. McKay has his moments where he looks spectacular. He also has his moments where he looks way out of his element. Here is hoping the Grizzly defense sends him into his "Bad Bo" mode. :D

I expect to see a lot Mellott.

Sam Herder Prediction follows below. (did Ifanse have general soreness or was it standard concussion protocol ?)

No. 3 Montana State at No. 7 Montana

The Brawl of the Wild has the biggest implications in years. If MSU wins, the Bobcats should be a Top 2 seed while Montana will play in the first round. If the Griz win, both teams end up somewhere in the seeds.

Montana is getting healthier, and having Cam Humphrey back at QB has led the offense to score 35 and 30 points in the last two games after a rough October. A concern for MSU is its All-American RB Isaiah Ifanse (1,208 rushing yards, eight TDs) is day-to-day this week and dealing with general soreness. It would be a surprise if Ifanse doesn’t play, but what percentage health is the star RB going to be at?

The good news is MSU is more balanced offensively compared to past seasons with QB Matthew McKay. The bad news is the Bobcats are going up against an elite defense with stars on all three levels. How much offensive success will MSU have? On the other hand, how much offensive success will Montana have? Montana State has a ferocious defensive front that will look to feast on an inexperienced and beat-up Montana o-line.

This will be a defensive battle. But I’ll take MSU with the slight edge in the trenches, which will lead to a win.

Prediction: Montana State 21-17

lower body; not concussion

Vigen coachspeak for leg injury, yes he did say general soreness on Monday, generally I would think a contusion from the EWU game, pure speculation on my part though. not sure about Elliot though, he looked like he rolled an ankle, betting they tape it up and see how it feels. We will know at game time.

Could mean anything. I have general soreness every single morning and am day-to-day Monday-Friday.

Good for you. I'm about to go on IR.

I think if Griz can burst to a 14+ point lead, it will be in our favor. The Cats are not geared for playing catch-up with their offense, and in the same token, it allows our defense to be aggressive and pass rush/blitz/stunt. If the Griz get behind 14 points, they are mostly likely doomed?

And could you imagine the cats being down 22-7 at halftime with a linebacker playing QB? That would be an impossible comeback. ;)

I'd agree, but that 2018 was pretty dogshit compared to this year's team, and had given up historic amounts of points in the second half of nearly every game. The Griz led going into the 4th in every loss but one they had that season, so the Cats coming back and winning was more par for the course than not.

This team is a little better at holding leads :thumb: (please don't look at the Eastern Game, just ignore it, it didn't happen  ).

I know. I was just looking for an opening to bring up that game. :)

I'd appreciate it if everyone just collectively forgot about that game, thanks. :thumb:

Agreed! We have been a D monster since Gavin Robertson has come back. He looks as healthy as he has all year and it has been a huge help to us shutting down our opponents Offense. We'll need him but I expect him to step up and shine!

GR has gotten stronger every week since back. He was putting some classic shots on ball carriers last week.

If the cats, or Griz for that matter, get behind by 10+, it will be too tough for them to come back.
Bobcats are not built for quick strikes and if Griz get behind 10+, cat running game will get rolling.

Yes, but your north carolina transfer linebacker playing QB struggled today.
