Montana stars put win streak on line
Boys, girls have won four straight against Wyoming all-stars

By ED WEST
Of The Gazette Staff
It is four straight victories for the Montana boys and four straight for the Montana girls. Will it be more of the same this year or will Wyoming break the trend?

That's the main question for the Midland Roundtable's Montana-Wyoming All-Star basketball series which resumes tonight at Sheridan College's Golden Dome and continues Saturday night at Rocky Mountain College's Fortin Center. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 both nights.

So what was the outcome of both games? I haven't heard anything thus far.

Montana/Wyo boys split this year. Mont won in Sheridan and Wyo won in Billings. Pretty evenly matched teams.

Wyo girls swept the series. They had 4 d-1 players on the team and Montana had no answer inside for the two UW signees.

2 going to Wyo
1 to Idaho State
1 to Montana

Wyo had a stacked roster

For the guy's they really have to be pretty pleased with there results. This has to be the weakest team we have fielded in over 20 years or more. To get a split against a very good Wyoming team surprised me. Lookout Wyoming Selvig 6-10, Howard 6-7, Edwards 6-10, and I think Hurley 6-5 (he is a senior to be right? )are coming next year!!-- Unless one of the kids decide to Big time the series. Next year could be the best team ever.

Actually I don't think the Wyo boys team was that good this year either. Several players chose not to play including the state's only d1 signee who is in summer school at Laramie.

What does Wyoming have next year. Because if Selvig, Howard and Edwards show up to play I think it will be a very tough for Wyoming.

(Side note)
Went and watched a tournament in Helena last weekend (Sat. 6/3) wanted to see Sentinel and GFHS play. The Bison had Howard there but Tatarka was at baseball and they still beat Sentinel who hand what it appeared to be their top guys. It was a 1 point game at the end but the Bison were in control most of the way and Howard seems much more confident in his outside game and a lot stronger and quicker. McKittrick also looked good as well. The 6'8" kid that many of us thought last year would not be able to step up looked great definisively and much stronger, they may have a legitimate shot at at a repeat.

It could be a heck of a series next year. Wyo has two d1 prospects next year that I know of with the Bullinger kid and Steward. Both are in the 6-5 range I believe and getting looks from several MWC and WAC schools. Steward is being looked at by the Big 12 as well.

Wyo coaches are saying next year is a very deep year for Wyo HS basketball with a possible 4 - 5 d1 signees playing in the state.
