Montana Griz NFL Pro Day

Some team is gonna take a flyer on Schafer, bulk him up just an bit, and make him into a tackle.
I thought the same thing. Wondered if he could learn to be an NFL lineman. I sent the Facebook post to my friend Brian O'Neill, the starting right tackle of the Vikes. He was a converted TE, but he converted after his redshirt year at Pitt and played 3 years at RT for Pitt before coming out early to enter the draft. Makes $19 million a year, and is about to sign another big contract. 6'7", 310. Ran his Combine 40 times in 4.80 and 4.82. Only had 22 benches then, which was low for a lineman at the Combines. Was about 6'5", 250 or 255 when he switched to tackle.

I think Shafer would make a great OLineman. Heck, he would've been our best OLmen last year. I'm just not sure a pro team would take the time to develop him. I think it would be better for Shafer to try to get drafted/picked up as a blocking TE/H back.

Who was throwing to the receivers?
This was the question of many of us! The kid had an absolute whip. I watched with Coach Marty Mornhinweg for all the individual drills and he thought the kid could get in an NFL camp. Unbelievable arm strength.

After some research, it’s Michael Palandri. He was a two time All-American at Montana Western, led the Bulldogs to consecutive Frontier titles.

By the way - Flowers is out. Broke his throwing hand on someone’s helmet.

Ah Yat is expected to be out for the spring game as well recovering from his knee injury.

College teams do that, but I'm not sure an NFL team will have the patience to mold someone into a position that they have never played before. Its too bad the Griz didn't do this, but maybe he was only around for 1 year? I can't keep the portal kids straight very often.

Most nfl teams carry a TE that is a blocking specialist. Schafer will not have to be molded for that, hes already there.

How’s his eligibility level?
