Montana - Davidson

From a Wildcat fan, regardless of what happens in the BSC race, we are all Big Sky fans when it comes to the bracket busters.

Go Griz beat Davidson

My God, we get our asses handed to us one game, and we all the sudden we are a bad team. Come on people where is the faith? This one very good GRIZ team still. I expect a very close game with Davidson. I do think our focus is more on the conference season though.

I've been wondering about this. Does Tinks focus solely on Davidson this week, or is there some cat and SUU preparation in there as well? Frankly, I get the sense that Wayne views this entire BracketBuster situation a distraction at best, and a major pain in the ass at worst. My hunch is that while he'd love to win in North Carolina, he's focused on the BSC championship.


And trail, I would have liked to have seen Martin redshirt as well. But keep in mind his RS isn't "burned". It's still availble to use any other year.

Well, we lose one of those and we pack our bags for Ogden. Win those, and we stay at home. If we beat Davidson, we say, "wahoo". If we lose, we say, "oh well". So yes, I'd say it might be necessary, because two games matter, and one doesn't.

Yea, you are right. The Davidson game is more for national recognition and will give the committee something to look at "when" the Griz have to be seeded. This team still has a 1 game lead with 4 to play, not a bad place to be to have your destiny in your hands..Weber has to rely on Montana helping them. They can win out and still head to Missoula.
 
Don't know if this got mentioned in another thread, but Optimum launched ESPNU last week and you should find it on channel 133. It's not HD, but now Optimum customers should be able to see this game now.

AMEN! But why no HD....makes no sense
 
If I were Tinkle I'd almost treat this game like a conference game. The reason being if we lose one of our last 4 and Weber wins out we'll most likely go to an RPI tie-breaker to determine the #1 seed and host. In a way it does have a good chance to affect the conference standings. Luckily though, ORU (Weber's opponent) isn't as highly rated as Davidson (not too shabby though), so if the Griz and Weber both lose (or win for that matter) it really won't matter and we'll still be ahead of Weber in the RPI. With all that said, let's hope the Griz win their last 4 conf games anyways and we won't even need to think about RPI!

RPI will only matter if the Griz only lose to MSU and Weber wins out.
 
I expect we'll lose to Davidson, and I don't really care, but I think if we can't win our last four conference games, we don't deserve to host, simple as that. I also expect our guys will take care of business.

You said if the Griz lose any game, which is not correct. It matters who they lose to because RPI is the third tiebreaker, following record vs teams in descending order of where they finish in the conference standings.

I do not think we are a bad team, but we are an above average team that benefits from a weak conference. Our perimeter game is solid but inside size, depth holds us back as evidenced by beat downs at Weber, BYU and SF also handled us well (given all on the road!). The big defeats all come to teams that know that once we get shut down outside we are one and done. And should we make the big dance the inside power game will doom us to a big loss.

I venture to say that if we were in Summit for example we would be a little better than a .500 team. Given all, I think Tinkle has done a great job of coaching up the great group of men we have for this year and bet that he is painfully aware of the needs to shore up the paint. I have often wondered what a Qvale type of guy underneath would do for our guys this year.

All Griz and all of the time. Davidson may be a bridge too far, but I think we win out conf. and get the tourney at home.

food for thought...davidson beat furman tonite 73-36..Cohen (post & probably POY in Summit) 12/11 2blk..Brooks forward 15/10..big guys are their power..without size could be very long night in Carolina...just win conf Griz, but no way we get higher than a 15 seed..BSC is just way, way, to weak this year
 
Losing Ward for this game sure does not help at all. Ironic, every out of conference game this year, we will have played w/out one of our top players.
