The cost of attendance should be applied ONLY to revenue producing sports. As these programs already create scholarship revenue for the Title IX & Olympic sports on every campus in america. It's just like a sales organization. The people who generate the most money should be allowed to KEEP the most money!
tuition has been frozen at montana schools for quite awhile i believe at current levelsSundown said:HookedonGriz said:Private funding would cover that no problem. Set up a website like ndsu and the $$ will roll in if it means getting good recruits and staying competitive. I'd give $$ to that.
This. This will probably be the model UM/MSU will have to adopt. Rest assured, with the general cost of attendance for all students (i.e. Tuition) constantly on the rise, the student body at large won't go for athletic fee increases.

Except that would violate Title IX because then only football (and possibly men's basketball) would receive benefits.
Given the Griz currently have one of the highest, if not the highest football ticket prices in FCS football, it would be an absolute travesty not to do this! I have no problem with remaining FCS for the near future, but to not strive to remain as competitive as possible in at least football, men's hoops and women's hoops would be a huge mistake and ultimately cost the athletic department far more than offering Cost of Attendance Scholarships.XxSpectrexX said:HookedonGriz said:Private funding would cover that no problem. Agreed. Donations will more than cover that additional cost. Dropping to D2 would mark the beginning of the end, so guess what? COA is non-optional for 2016 class.
Actually its already DOES happen not saying its right or wrong: http://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/home/advocate/title-ix-and-issues/coa-title-ixfirmgriz said:NewPapaBear said:84GRIZ said:Email that I got from Kent Haslam was that they estimate U of M's Cost of Attendance at $3,600 with 178.1 athletic scholarships so right now U of M's estimated cost is just over $641K.

Are you serious?Spanky said:That won't work Papa Bear. UM is not a business.
There might even be an easier solution since the GSA already sells beer in the tailgate - just sell a special cup with the funds from cup sales earmarked for cost of attendance. Knock a buck or 2 off the cost of refills using the cup.84GRIZ said:Allocating all the profits from in stadium beer sales could pay for a bunch of the costs. Talked to a buddy in the casino business and on beer a $5 glass should net close to $3.50 to $4 in profit. You do the math if you assume 1/3 of the fans would drink 2 beers per game. Comes out to around $70K per game. Not saying it would pay for all of it but we might need to be creative. MSU is the one that brought up ending letting people back in after halftime to curb the binge drinking and adding in stadium beer sales.
