Montana assistant Bill Evans: Teaching Griz Defense

Had a great 15-minute interview with Montana assistant coach, and former Southern Utah head coach, Bill Evans... about DEFENSE, naturally.

Format is Q&A interview: in his words.

I am absolutely blown away in reading all of the conference-leading defensive stats that the Griz have accomplished this season! The only game I have seen in last week's NAU game, and the Griz were out-defended and out-physicaled badly by NAU in that game. I guess it was an aberration. Or maybe Cherry means that much to the team defense that it collapsed without him in there.

I talked with Coach Evans when he first came to Montana and the first couple practices I noticed his passion for defense. I think Stads was spot on. He changed the culture of the team, especially with his matchup zone defense. That defense broke down without Will at NAU, but I expect it to be much better this weekend even if Will doesn't play.

I know Cherry is a great defender, but team defense should not rely so heavily on one player before it breaks down like it did versus NAU.

Blah blah blah, you obviously didn't see how bad Genius Adras got outcoached in Missoula did you?

I asked you to stay out of my threads. We only allow individuals who are able to discuss basketball to post. Were there any athletes in your immediate family?

YOUR THREADS? When did you purchase Egriz? Aren't you banned for life on here? Give it up Steve, and go start your own board. Nice job by your "Genius" Adras last night getting his ass handed to him at Weber.

Interesting note...Griz were predicted to not challenge for the BSC title? I know we lost AJ, but I would've thought that after the showing in the tournament, and with Will and BQ and Selvig coming back that we would've been fairly highly thought of coming into this season?

Also, great interview and thanks for doing this.
