Montana @ App State Predictions

...would rather eat frozen crow...
...than pick against the griz...
...griz 24..app state 21...

... 8-) ...

TSN Picks App By 5 (sorry if this has already been posted someplace):

No. 12 Montana Grizzlies (1-0) at No. 11 Appalachian State Mountaineers (0-1), 6:30 p.m. (ESPN Game Plan, ESPN3.com)

Series record: Montana leads, 2-0

Last meeting: Montana 24, Appalachian State 17 (Dec. 12, 2009)

What to know: You won't be able to find too many people in Boone, N.C., on Saturday night who will not be in attendance at "The Rock" for one of the most anticipated regular-season non-conference matchups in the history of the FCS.

For those questioning the significance of a regular-season contest between the Southern and Big Sky conferences, keep in mind both programs have a combined five national championships, 10 FCS championship-game appearances and 40 FCS postseason berths. In the last seven years, Appalachian State and Montana are the winningest programs in all of the FCS with 79 and 78 victories, respectively.

To make things even more interesting, Appalachian is coming off a disappointing 8-4 season without a playoff win (yes, disappointing in the eyes of the Mountaineers faithful) and lost to Eastern Carolina last week. The Grizzlies had a troubled offseason with player arrests, assault allegations and the firing of its head coach. Montana won its opener, but trailed a South Dakota team that won three FCS games in 2011, 24-16 midway through the third quarter. The Grizzlies rushed the ball effectively and won, 35-24.

Very rarely do teams come away with victories against Appalachian State in the confines of Kidd Brewer Stadium. Coach Jerry Moore is 20-3 all-time in home openers for the Mountaineers and 10-1 in the last 11 years.

Prediction: Appalachian State 33, Montana 28

UM- 34
ASU- 27

Griz pound the ball on the ground, going over 250 yards. TM comes back to earth a little, and struggles to throw effectively against a speedy ASU defense. App utilizes that speed offensively as well, beating a slower Montana secondary for several long TDs. In the end, UM's ability to hold the ball for long, punishing drives wears down the ASU defense, letting Montana score a late TD to win this game for UM.

Nothing but respect for App St, and I would not be suprised at all to see them come away with a win over the Griz. A 31-17 App St win is very possible.

I think the biggest question is our secondary and they will be put to the test this weekend. App showed a lot of skill in the mid and long passing game. If the 2ndary limits this App. St. advantage then we win it by 2 TD's. If not, it is going to be very close but App winning by a TD, late.

My hopes are Griz 41 App St. 38

Go Griz!

Home field, more experienced, better coached, and they WILL be focused on the Griz, you can count on that. Thats the bad news. Good news is the Griz will bring home the game ball. They just need to remember to bring the LARGE can of Vaseline. I doubt the Mountaineers will offer any.
Better coached????

I don't know about that......? More experienced head coach.... OK.... I get that.... But better coached?

Jerry Moore has been ASU head coach for 23 years, record of 207-83. Our guy is 1-0. With three consecutive national titles recently, yes, I would say better coached. Lets hope for a Griz upset, but reality bites.

I believe this is a realistic view of the game. For Montana to win, the running game has to be there and TM will have to keep his mistakes to a minimum. Go Griz!

I will take 20-17. Either or. If no TO's Montana wins, if App St. plays flawless ball they win.

There are alot more coaches than just the head guys coaching in this game. I would put our staff as a whole up against anybody.

App 34
UM 24

Not my desired outcome but what I think a team with no rudder going into a very storied program like app will face, with a fairly optimistic outcome for UM being a moderate loss considering the keel hauling during the offseason.

I kind of hope App puts a serious ass beating down on UM, say 14 points or more to make the team either come together next game or look forward to next season. (Emphasis on the come together part) A early loss in the season OOC loss would be easier to bounce back from and most UM teams that really succeed seem to need that loss.

I agree with this statement. Close, either way. 27-24 though.

I hate, hate, hate to pick against the Griz but from what I saw in the game against SDU, the Griz secondary is not up to snuff. I see a 14 point loss for the Griz -- maybe 35-21. Winning in Boone is seriously tough and so even a loss will be OK since it will be the last of the season.

And I predict you'll be more interested in satisfying your irrational personal vendettas than seeing the team as a whole succeed. But I'm not exactly going out on a limb there.

Secondary did fine, with the exception of Dennard...Who was bady beaten by his man several times, however, N. Harris is back and will start.

Whatever that means

We would succeed if we had an actual QB, how is that not wanting the best for the team?

Correction, you care more about proving you're smarter and know more about football than the coaches who are paid to make these decisions.

Just because they are coaches doesnt mean they are smarter than some people.
