Yeah man, it really stings to lose two key guys long-term in the opener. The two starters getting themselves in trouble is just salt in the wound. :(

No excuses from here, though. The Griz have had their share of personnel issues to overcome as well and we have got to move on. We are young but talented and we will have a great crowd behind us. I expect nothing less than a great game played at a high level on both sides.

Griz strength is their D line and LB's. ECU had their QB on the run which made him miss some open receivers.

FTR, and just to argue, I would not describe Price as our #1 receiver. He's a 6'5" FRESHMAN who can jump through the roof & make brilliant plays. But, he has absolutely zero game day experience. Nada. He also, apparently, has yet to learn about obeying rules.

Our #1 receiver is either Peacock or Washington; both seasoned players. We also have an Oregon transfer (RS Freshman) who runs a 4.24 40 (that's Olympic speed!!!) who could be a game-changer. Montana will see him some.

I agree that we would be better if Price were playing.

Missing Lott, Chisholm, & Middleton will be bad enough. Price may very well be our #1 receiver by the end of the season. But, as of right now, he's just potential on a piece of paper.

I agree for the most part, although I would put Peacock as our undisputed #1 receiver. It's hard to name one with a scheme like Satterfield's though. We rotate receivers constantly and as many as 6 will catch a pass during any decent drive.

It's funny how, after losing Brian Quick as the 33rd overall draft pick, App Nation was woried about our reciever depth. Now we have the position for days, enough for two rosters, and we're lacking DB depth all of the sudden. I bet next week we have plenty of DB's and we'll need some more linebackers ;) .

If the Griz offense doesn't test the App State secondary and attempt to throw deep, the speed of App State's secondary will significantly limit all the short / swing passes that TM will throw. I would guess App State will play the safeties up tight to support run and limit short passing game. The offense should run and run often with Moore and Nguyen. I would also suspect that TM will be limited with his runs. App State defense is bigger and faster than So. Dakota, and I would hate to see him running the ball a bunch of times. I go back to the hit he took Saturday... ouch! I know you can't avoid it, but let the o-line plow for the backs. Griz defense has to limit big plays and play fast to match speed of App State offense. If the special teams creates a score it might change my prediction. But, if it comes down to a FG to win the game, I don't think the Griz will pull it out.

Yes Mr. Growler this is what I want, expect and wish for. Will it happen? Who knows?

A SAMPLE OF WHY I THINK WE WILL WIN:
I see a young team, one that does not know how to lose.
We will see some new stuff on all three sides of the Team Griz. O then D then ST.
We are deep on defense, not this deep in recent years. Bigs will be fresh.
Offense will improve, we all know. We will see new plays, one or two off the wall. Won't win the game for us but it might help in the momentum and moralization......Like in De.
Secondary of ours? Untested-untried slow fat and dumb? No way!
Line? Both sides strong. Line Backers good, quick and smart.
Coaches? Best we have had in recent memory.
QB? Good. Will improve each game. He will need his A+ game if we are to win.
 
I have only picked against the Griz a few times ever. This weekend will be one of them. A young Griz team on the road, early in the season at the Rock.

APP St. does want this one badly....as old papa bear would say, 'this one scares the heck out of me'...but he would say that about everyone we played back in the day!

Hope we win, but getting out of Boone will take a near flawless effort....whomever wins escapes with a razor thin margin.

Cats get surprised by those Iowa farmboys at Drake....they have better athletes than Shadow State and a first class program
