Montana’s Semorian defense: New DC Jason Semore turns heads with style and tactic

Ok, so 2 recently locked. Not one with that title. It's still obvious to me.
If it matters that much to you, he was responding to this post:

“My role has changed a lot,” Semore said. “[I’m] trying to train these defensive players to understand, not only their job within the defense, but how our defense impacts what we’re trying to do offensively.
In the "coach's show" thread last week, I got in a spat with Ace and Gary because they could not possibly understand how what the defense is doing impacts the O strategy. Well there it is in black&white!
There were two replies to that post, this was one of them.

Not sure what the problem is. I simply pointed out the "coaches thread" was not, today anyway, locked, in case anybody wanted to follow the referenced discussion. If they did, fine. If they didn't fine. Geez.

Let's see what you were saying then. I'm doubting that what you said now is accurate, but I will wait to see the specifics from you. I am guessing the discussion was about what the defense may or may not have been saying to the offense, which has nothing to do with what Semore said.
In one post where I pointed out how Gary sounds just like when Homer wears a monocle, I also said:
[The team unity has] spilled over into the O play calling and strategy on game day.
http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=74587&start=75
Your "discussion" may have been about the snide/small comments/attitude of TG's D, but mine was about how the change has improved team unity on both sides of the ball and impacted strategy.
And it's not like I'm Nostradamus or some insider. It was clearly explained by the coach in what was the thread's title--the coaches show--but you two wouldn't ever care about the actual topic of a thread you burn down and put out with piss

If so what is it about this defensive football thread that you wish to discuss?

From what I read in your initial post you wanted to point out that the over-zealous writing of some young kid from a university newspaper relayed some information in their opening that was factually questionable. Whether or was or wasn't doesn't add anything to a discussion about Coach Semore's defense which is the topic of the thread.
At the risk of explaining the obvious, I was responding directly to the opening post. Indeed, the very first paragraph of it.

It says this:
The Men from Mines is a three-part series profiling three Montana coaches who came from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado: Defensive coordinator Jason Semore, pass game coordinator Nolan Swett and head coach Bob Stitt. The three dominated the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and now shape the crucial aspects of Montana football that makes it so successful.
See that part about the "Men from Mines?" That's the meme of the thread.

In terms of the defense brought to UM, if it is indeed based on the performance and record gained at "Mines," it might be useful to determine first the accuracy of the claims made about the "dominance" of the RMAC by "Mines" as the result of the contributions of the three named coaches. Coach Semore, and presumably his "defense," was counted as one of the reasons for the "dominance." And, it was claimed, the experience at "Mines" "now shapes the crucial aspects of Montana football that makes it so successful."

That's a big claim to make as the basis for Semore "turning heads" because of that experience. I'd give his much longer previous experience the bulk of the credit, frankly. But, the poster did not go there, so neither did I. I limited my comments to his actual post.

Since it was the first paragraph, and was posted on egriz, I took the opportunity to look at the record at "Mines" and specifically included the references to Semore's contributions.

The original poster apparently thought it was relevant -- so much so that he drew a direct connection to the "Mines" record as proof of his contentions -- so perhaps you should take up your objection with him, since I was simply responding to the direct remark.

I can understand your surprise on egriz about someone responding directly to specific claims made in an opening post. Why you might object is the interesting part.

Yes, as you note, it was factually questionable. I questioned it and provided the factual basis as to why it was "questionable." Whether or not it was the "over-zealous writing of some young kid" is your call. Unlike you, I made no personal comments about the writer. But someone decided it needed to be posted here and this is, in its rapidly disappearing function, still a place to discuss football.

Once again, I just read through your latest posting and I will ask you once again; please post a question or point of discussion that engages discussion about Coach Semore's defense. This is a football web page. At no time do you need to respond to other posters comments, as you stated you are here to discuss football. If other posters say things you disagree with, that is of no consequence by your own admission.

You are clearly not a troll, so you wouldn't just post here to disagree with others, if others choose to lower themselves to non-football related posts, you are clearly smart enough to rise above it.

So once again, please refrain from commenting on this or other posts, as a troll would do, and just say something that will spark discussion related to Coach Semore's defense.

I addressed the specific first paragraph of the opening post on the page, which advanced the meme that all success of the defense (and offense) at the University of Montana currently is due to "domination" of the RMAC.

If you wish to create your own thread about something different, please feel free to do so.

However, since you did not define the thread topic, I was responding to specific posted opening comments, important enough to the original author as to make it the guiding meme of his comments. His initial claims happened to be untrue to some extent. Had he elected to limit his comments to just what has happened at UM under Semore, that's one thing. But, he linked those achievements to "domination" at RMAC, and did so as the lead off challenge.

Indeed, it was the first thing he said on this thread. I did not make the choice. He did.

Had he intended to separate Coach Semore's current defense from his claims of "domination" of the RMAC, he could have done so, but did not. He clearly linked them. I was responding to his specific comments, not the fantasy view that he did not make the claim that he made.

Perhaps you need to consult with him and his inappropriate view. That you should be able to define the thread topic, not the lead author of the opening post. You can tell him. It does no good to tell me. I did not post the first paragraph of the opening post that discussed "the Men from Mines." I did not feel the need to personally demean the original writer or the originally poster as you did. It is always sufficient to simply point to the factual record. For some reason, you oppose that, and retreat to simply demeaning the original writer.

Oddly enough, the claimed record at Mines was also "about football," but I was not the author of the opening comment of the thread making the direct connection to "MInes" by way of a claim to "domination."

You might put your excellent analytical abilities to work at the numerous posters who don't address the actual thread topics in any way, but instead distort and derail actual thread topics to suit personal agendas. I haven't seen you put any energy into that project.

But if you did, I am sure it would keep you very, very, busy, given your sudden interest in the proposition. It does seem odd that you didn't feel the need to note that problem until just now. Indeed, to argue that a responding poster should NOT address comments posted in the opening post without your permission upon the proposition that you, not they, should be able to define what is relevant in an opening post, and not the initiating poster.

Isn't it something? I wonder how many people don't post anymore because of the browbeating they'll get if their thoughts don't align? It's bullshit and it should be dealt with, it's pretty bad when our own fans are treated worse than the trolls who come here for the purpose of causing trouble. Might be time to move on.

You're absolutely right! Bobcat fans can come over and shitpost all they want....and we take the high road and give them just a little bit of a hard time.

But if you make fun of Bozemans defensive coordinator, make any reference to this years defense being stronger than last years, or stand behind our head coach at all.....you get 75 jumping down your throat with his encyclopedia. But do these shit-for-brains mods do anything? F**** no.

People just have to refuse the urge to respond in any way to their posts. Just walk by; ignore them. More people should find the foe button and use it. It's liberating.

Yeah I think I will....which is too bad because I go into a thread with no bias.....and if 75 or PR have something decent to contribute I love to respond and try to make conversation. Buuuut 90% of the time it's a circlejerk.

What I object to is hypocrisy, rank stupidity, and continuous over-the-top hyperbole by people that can't carry on a reasonable discussion, continually get their facts wrong, and fabricate controversies that don't need to exist.

Take the comment above about jumping down anybody's throat if anybody talks about "this years defense being stronger than last years".

I have made three comments about "this year's defense" other than that I think the first two games show promise this year.

Good read. Well written piece. Especially noted the philosophy that you design around who you've got, not who you wish you had or want to recruit next year. And that will always be true.

These young men have variable skillsets, but at a certain level, the fundamentals aren't that much different -- distinguishing here skillsets from attributes (size, weight, etc). The skillsets can be coached and often overcome natural differences in attributes. That's "coaching" and I think this guy [Semore] gets it.

If Semore can do as good or better than last year's defense, and the consensus seems to be that he can, then this game should turn entirely on our offense.
Re: Montana’s Semorian defense: New DC Jason Semore turns heads with style and tactic
Semore was an assistant on the Mines staff ... for the Fall season, 2014 [and] Mines had an impressive 8-1 record, losing only to Colorado State Pueblo, 12-20.
There's an "egriz problem." That's what I've said about Semore. It's the opposite of what Brewski claims I have said. How did he get there? Would you put him in charge of a Nuclear Power Plant?

Your initial complaint was that I had the audacity to post a comment about "Men from Mines" by reviewing the football record of the "Men from Mines" at "Mines." I noted that, if that is a prelude to "Montana" that when Semore came back, in 2014, and with regard to Semore, "Mines had an impressive 8-1 record, losing only to Colorado State Pueblo, 12-20."

You could not refrain from commenting on that, attempting to argue that it was off-topic, despite the fact that it was the controlling theme of the posted article. You don't get to control the original post, nor the direct responses to it. You seem to be anxious to create a controversy out of that where none can exist.

Please, please, please, for the sake of all who care about you, have a complete physical and mental checkup soon. When people of your age start losing touch with reality, and have delusions of persecution, early diagnosis and treatment can help.

Soldier, you are completely correct. What PR and 75 crave is attention. Just ignore their constant blather. It almost certainly won't end, but hopefully it may limit the number of excessively lengthy posts.

Do you take issue with anything I've said about Semore? Do you see Semore differently than I have characterized him? How?
