Great Article. More and more I see the talent that Stitt whiffed on and how much he just did not get MT football. Glad to see Pat living his dream. Hope he gets a few sacks SAT.

Which talent would that be? Sims? Bingham? Olson? Toure? Nash? Akem? Nagler? Lewis? Sirmon? Sandry? Calhoun? JLM? McGinnis? FLowers? Keinz? Roberts? Deming Twins? Longoria? Beaver?

That's a LOT of Stitt recruits (I know, a couple of these might have been late Delaney recruits that Stitt honored) that are starting or getting valuable PT in crunch-time--but I didn't include the 2018 class guys who Stitt recruited that Bobby honored)...you know, for a guy who whiffed on so much talent. And that's not even counting Daulton Daum or Nathan Dick, GPOY-type players who both ended up leaving but were consensus #1 MT recruits coming out of HS.

I think he’s referring to the fact that O’Connell and his coach reached out to Stitt and Stitt showed them no love. So he tried again with Bobby and it seems to be working out.

There was once a kid named Fitzgerald who ended up with the Kittens because Stitt was a complete embarrassment during the recruiting process (or lack thereof). Yes. He major whiffed and on a Griz family through and through.

I think the situation with O’Connell highlights stitts inability to evaluate rough talent that could be developed. I don’t think stitt did the greatest job in regard to developing talent. The last time Hauck was here it wasn’t uncommon to see walk on payers making substantial contributions, some even went on to become all Americans and even professional players. Did stitt even have a single walk on that become a substantial contributor? He recruited well in regard to his top players, but what about depth Azfan. Sure he had some great individual talents, but in regard to depth, not his strength at all IMO

Jace Lewis was a walk-on
Trace LeTexier was a walk-on
Andrew Harris was a walk on

But no, not a ton of walk ons, really at all. Ironically perhaps the only position where there’s “depth” that are Stitt recruits is the O-line....

Well every coach misses on tons of talent. Even Bobby.

Didn’t know jace was a walk on, also someone else mentioned that McGee was also a walk-on, if so I stand sufficiently reprimanded, as those are two pretty good ones.

Last year he got recognized for flying around. After a year of development by this coaching staff he is flying around with purpose and has earned playing time. His ceiling is on the rise.
About the 37, although O’Connell is well deserving...Robby is putting up some great numbers and carrying a lot of responsibilities.

I will be happy with whomever Mr. Simms picks for #37! :thumb:

Agreed.

Agreed. But you gotta agree that O’Connell has certainly pushed his way into the conversation with his play this year. Been a very welcome surprise...
