Missouri State Forum Board

A couple thoughts from reading a few threads there:

-In the "Bears announce first FBS games" thread, someone mentions the Montana return game being canceled. It does seem like a likely thing to happen, I wonder what, if any, buyout that UM would receive?

-must be nice to have your first FBS home-and-home contracts include a power conference coming in (SMU but Marshall is also not bad for a G5) and having 2 other P5/P4 (@Arkansas and @Kansas State) away games already lined up with the money game bump from their new FBS title.

According to the report, which Haslam confirmed, Montana will pay Missouri State $150,000 in compensation for the cancellation since the Bears won't get their home game as part of the initial home-and-home deal.

Interesting that UM will end up paying when I assume Missouri State is likely who asked for the cancellation (but maybe I'm wrong there). I do get their point of view that they are missing out on the return trip but we could've still played the game.

That just means get a home game...open teams are Western Carolina, South Dakota (not SDSU), Valparaiso, Tarleton State, or Central Arkansas just to name a few!

So if I looked at this correctly it would put us at 6 home games if we are able to find another opponent to come to WaGriz in place of that game with two more games left to schedule afterwards as there is only 9 games so far (8 of which are conference games, 4 at home) plus Utah tech at home. Most likely we are looking at back to back to back seasons with 7+ home games? Seems that would be pretty good for the coffers while the payments from the most recent settlement are accounted for. Should be in a better position than most of the BSC financially for the near future.

I don't think we have to pay if they cancel.

According to the article we do, which actually makes a little sense because they're still coming to Missoula. Since there's no home and home now, we'd still have to pay them to make that trip.
Obviously should have read the article better, you're right. I dislike that, but I guess paying them 150k to come is still a hell of a deal.

When are they going to post a time for this game? It certainly looks like a night game being a 'black out', but without a time it's difficult to plan my roadtrip for this.
