Missoulian is now printed in Helena, so shuts down any Missoula news around 5:00 ... in order to get it to Helena in time to be printed and back to Missoula for early morning delivery.

That’s not how that works. They use the same design agency and content software. It has to be in a little earlier, but not 5.5 hours earlier than previous deadline

That is not what I was led to believe, Kyle. But there are NEVER finals of any night baseball games ... or last night's Griz or Paddlehead games ... or a myriad other night events. I don't know the precise time lines or deadlines, but I know we often know NOTHING in the morning edition.

Back to topic, the Missoulian is following the same glide path the Tribune went through. Little by little it slid into irrelevancy. Couldn't report shit, didn't follow-up anything.
Idagriz summed it up very well, basically the death of newspapers. To predict what the Missoulian will become, look to what the Tribune has become. Nothing, a piece of USA Today. Local? Nothing. Sad, but true. An empty building on River Road.
As for this ongoing, never ending pissing match between a few toward the one, stop. Hit the reset button and get on with your lives. As you stand before St.Peter in the end, and he reads your accomplishments in life, or lack thereof, think if this opportunity to move on, before St. Peter hits the trap door button.

Spot on. You are starting to see some smaller, independent, online news letters that are trying to pick up the slack for local news. You need some cash to do it right but they are trying.

They might have a slightly earlier deadline now. I think it was like 11 when I worked there. We'd have preferred to have pages done before. But for late high school games, or Paddleheads or the rare Griz football games, we had to have copy in between 10:30-11 with 11 being the absolute latest. They could have moved it up, but I'd be very surprised if deadline was 5

I have never seen any coverage of high school games in the sat. paper. Hell don't even read about any of them on Sunday.

I think they print right at 9pm for Missoula …. So there’s no time for reporters/designers to get updated scores. Helena prints Butte, Missoula, Great Falls as well…. Pretty soon Bozeman will print Billings I’ve heard.
