Missoulian Letter to the Editor: Crowd Noice (WTF?)

It takes many different kinds of people to fill a 26,000 seat stadium in Montana. Some of them are going to be absolutely freaking clueless.

Note to those that are going to say "Sit Down" or complain about noise. WaGRIZ is not a place for you, even more so come playoffs. Feel free to join in if you would like though. IF standing is a problem for you, I respect that, ask security to find a seat for you where a group or a few standing is not an issue. However, if you are physically able to stand, sorry I have no empathy for you, just join in. Who knows you might actually enjoy GRIZ football that much more.

Just as we expect our team to step it up in the playoffs, they expect us to do the same, "LOUD and PROUD"!

At least now we know the identity of one of those who think that all children should receive A's, there should be no losing team in any sporting event, and wealth should be distributed evenly.

Why so surprised?

Typical Missoula and its liberal mentality, he is so much smarter than you and needs to educate all of you with his progressive intellect, hes probably in a union as well.

One more yahoo goosestepping to Hussein Obama and the downfall of the USA.

Phooey. What we do is the sign of educated football fans. Now I kind of question the way the Bobcats fired their cannon off just when our kicker was doing his thing. But it's fair game to be noisy during while the opposition is on offense. That's how it's supposed to be. Phooey.
That was fricking hilarious when they shot of the Cannon when they got a first down in the second half I was laughing my ass off!!

Here's a letter from today's Missoulian. Discuss.

http://www.missoulian.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_295ceeac-d83f-11de-88dc-001cc4c002e0.html?mode=story
Peter Christian, “the voice of the Grizzlies” (Missoulian, Nov. 14), apparently does not consider that encouraging the fans to yell when the Griz are on defense so that the opposing team cannot hear their signals is (to quote him) “something that we feel is going to put a stain on excellence.”

One of the most impressive things I ever saw was at Wimbledon a few years ago. A British player was playing someone from another country and the stands were quiet – unnaturally quiet for John McEnroe, the announcer from the USA – and the Brit was losing as usual.

“The Brit might do better if there was some cheering from the fans egging him on!” McEnroe said.

Said the other announcer, “Yes, this is the only place in the world where this could happen.”

Christian should go to Wimbledon. He says he’s “only had to remind the fans about sportsmanship ... a couple of times.” It’s ripe with irony that the man who thinks himself qualified to “remind the fans about sportsmanship” not only sees nothing wrong in this unfair advantage we take over the guest team, but gloatingly keeps track on the big board of the number of false starts that opposing team makes because of unheard signals!

G.R. Jamieson, Missoula

So, unless I do not have this straight, G.R. Jamieson does not disagree with some who do not defend Peter Christian's not discouraging fans from yelling when the Griz are not on offense so that the team playing opposite the Griz cannot hear their signals, thus not allowing for a lack of noise. I get it. Mr. Jamieson should stick to tennis.

Says the union guy. :jack:

You cant be in a union and truly be a Montanan, it goes against anything and everything scared to living in this state. Land access, hunting, guns etc. You cant have it both ways.

This person is insane. That was a horribly written letter and very hard to understand. However,to get in the spirit of good sportsmanship I would suggest that rather we be quiet we just yell the entire game, making it fair for everyone. I also think the band should play both school songs equally, we should paint the logo of the opposition along side the grizzly logo, the fans should dress in opposition colors and Mo should sport the other teams jersey. This persons a dandy.

When I leave WGS my throat is so dry and sore I can't even talk until I have a beer at dinner and then only a little

Boom, roasted.

This letter has to be a joke. Either that, or it is finally exciting proof that aliens have landed and are living among us in human form.

Let's face it - the announcer should not have to tell our fans to STFU when we have the ball and save the Wave for when we are on defense. Some ignorasmuses always want to amuse themselves and make noise when we are on offense. Let us, the smart asses on egriz, who should know better, make sure we discourage this and save all our energy for making it way too loud for the opposing team to think straight when they have the ball.
I'm a golfer. I know the power and the proper place for quiet. It is golf tournaments. It is not football games.Note to Peter Christian - Griz stadium is for football - not golf. No one thinks any less of the University because we are the loudest, most energetic crowd in FCS. In fact we are admired and envied because of it. Profanity is unecessary - Loud screaming till you can't talk anymore is to be admired.
IMHO

Maybe this guy is a Richmond fan? The Richmond fans I sat near at Chatty all stood up and cheered when Richmond had the ball on offense. Boy did we get some strange looks from them.

our noise is ----ing awesome! how about this (Missoulian)quote from Ash after the litter box cleaning!
Griz Nation is proud too - loud and proud. When it was over Saturday Ash vowed his offense will use a silent count next time the Cats play the Griz in Bozeman.

G.R. Jamieson clearly has no idea what football is all about, therefore should not be writing the Missoulian complaining about our "rude behavior." Why was this story even published?

Yeah, first thought I was wondering who would even be bothered by loud noise, let alone go out of their way to whine about it and seek attention in the local media? ....answer: the Kaimin

Agreed. Unions are terrible ideas and should be done away with. Yeah, they were a good idea back in the 30's and the situation then but the economy has changed since then. Union jobs are lower paying than they could be potentially because part of the money allocated to the original job's wage now has to go to union representatives and their "supervision". Unions also take the incentive to work harder away because they award promotions based off of time in the job and not production or quality of work. Also, unions would like people to think they can get a person better wages/benefits, but if the company doesn't want to pay that, they'll just get new employees that are willing to work for the original amount. Then, instead of a raise like promised, you're out of a job. Fun. Sorry, I'm a manager and just hate the idea of unions and not being able to talk to or have a personable relationship with my employees without having a mediator in the room with their own agenda. This is the football board, though, so I'll let that be it for my ranting.

Coming from the guy that grew up in the 4th stongest union town in Montana - and living in the strongest union town.
#1 Butte
#2 Anaconda
#3 Helena
#4 Great Falls

Why wouldn't union guys want land access, hunting, and guns? Just look at some of the rich individuals that don't want you crossing their new property to get to your favorite hunting ground - Forest Service land, etc. For example: just south of Butte, among many.

If it was up to individual land holders, you would not be able to cross their property to go hunting. Power to the people on that one.

Don't make the mistake of equating anti-land-access, anti-gun, and anti-hunting activists as union advocates. You are way, way, way off base on that "connection". Just ask some of your union buddies there in Butte.
