Missoulian - Griz left to close TV gap left by Root

I agree if you are a fan living in Nebraska, that doesn't get Root, and now you have no way to watch the Griz anymore when the games are on Root.

But I would venture to say a majority of Griz fans live in the northwest (including Montana). Not a vast majority, but I'd guess over half. Now many fans in this part of the country get 4 Griz games in HD, on TV, rather than BigSkyTV or nothing.

It's a trade off, but I think it's worth it to get more exposure for the program. Granted it isn't huge exposure, but before this we (Montana schools) were limited to just broadcasting in Montana. Then Altitude came along and picked up a game or two, in their 7 or whatever broadcast region (including Montana). Now we get 4 games on a network that has full coverage in 10 states, and limited coverage in 7 or so more, most of them being in the northwest or midwest.

3.7 million subscribers in the northwest, another 2.4 million back east via satellite or cable.

I don't know, it's a hard argument I know. Screw some out of state Griz fans, to broadcast over 6 million more potential viewers (I know the ratings will be way, way, way less than that).

I'd trade it, personally.

But then again, I bought my folks a SlingBox and I watch games out of state that way. ;)

Are your numbers for just Both Root Sports Northwest and not the other Root Channels. This year Big SKy is Northwest channel only I think. It is available in 5 states. Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Of course with Direct TV or Dish you can get it anywhere

It appears to me we came out as good or better than the rest of the teams (I know last year we had 7 games):
UM 4 games
MSU 4 games
Eastern 4 games
PSU 3 games
Cal Poly 2 games
Weber 1 game
UNC 1 game
All the rest 0

how many of those games did not involve a team from the state of montana on at leasat one side of the sidelines?

I saw the word "gap" in the title and thought this thread would be about something else...boy I feel a little sheepish... :coffee:

There are very few areas of the country where you couldn't find Root Pacific in any decent sports bar. Even most cable and satellite providers in decent sized cities will have it available, although it may cost you a few bucks a month for the sports package.
