I like Missoula, I Guess....
I am getting ready to go up there for the BB tournament, and I can't help but feel like I need to listen to Hippy-Indie Rock music, throw on a pair of cargo pants and practice using intellectual words so that I can fit in with the Pseudo-Granola Posse.

I'll have to buy a Nalgene water bottle, denounce religion and form a convincing "contention that commercialism and capitalism will be the downfall of America" Missoula is Mecca for the Brigade of Women with Unshaven-Armpits.

It's A great town and the people are wonderful. (their sports fans, though can be really obnoxious) Good fans in general. But come on, I mean really. Sometimes they go just a little over board.
This is after all ONLY a Mid-Major, it is not like winning the Big Sky is all that big of a deal, it cannot be compared to winning the SEC for example, these lunatic fans need to put it in perspective, all they have managed to do is beat MOST, the other big sky teams.... WHHOOOOPPPIIEEE. Hell most Texas or Southern California HIGH SCHOOL teams could do that. !!

try playing a tough game once in a while if you want to brag about how good your team really is..

case in point your football schedule for this year... WOW don't go out of your way to schedule teams that could give you a game..

you may as well have scheduled Helena High School......

well I will see you there for the BB tournamant.. someone want to buy me a beer?

Well, yes and no....

No, because there are still a ton of us that hold some rather more conservative views than the image you attach to our town. Most of us have, however, come to realize that the "cargo pants" people provide a necessary balance, and that those pants actually feel pretty good. And no because most in my camp don't any longer recognize what they still call Missoula.

Yes, because several years ago critical mass was reached by the Griz program as a result of some identifiable events, and some that were just magic. We're Grizaholics who demand trilling success, which infects the team - college kids doing their best - with a level of sickness. And yes because we've come to react to being the target of scorn with the satisfaction that we're deemed worthy.

Maybe just come and enjoy. It's still pretty cool. As Keith Richards said recently "You've got a pretty little place here. I'm thinkin' of movin' in!"

This seems a little grumpier than most of your other posts.

I thought there was an EWU guy named "Observer" who was a fairly regular poster here. This "Observer" has only one post so I'm obviously confused.

The description above can relate to almost any college town in the nation. It's not just Missoula.

I liked Missoula because of how much commercial development there was going on. It was a town that wasn't afraid of trying to expand.

That doesn't fall in line with the stereotypes, now does it?

Observer,

It's not our fault that you go or went to State Directional Commuter College.

As was said earlier, your discription is in line with what almost every flagship college town in the nation is like. Madison, Boulder, Berkeley, and Eugene all fit your discription to a tee.

The good news is we're leaving this silly little conference sooner than later. Then you can kick it in Pocetello and Flagstaff and not have to worry about running into any hippie intellectuals.

Kill yourself.

i do have to say that people in Boulder make people in Missoula seem normal :thumb:

there is a group of people that ride bikes around boulder every Thursday screaming happy Thursday or some crap like that, they are weird!

He goes by Obzerver.

I think I can speak for most of us when I say, to hell with the hairy armpit girls, the granola hippies that drag this town down, and to hell with the a-holes that yell at hunters as they come through town with an elk in the back of the truck.

So if your opinion of the Big Sky is so low, why in the world are you coming to Missoula to watch the Big Sky tourney?

Why not go to the SEC games, which you apparently believe is one of the best. Since the Big Sky is, in your opinion, the bottom of the barrel college conference, not even able to compete against high school teams from where ever, you should probably be spending your time watching the SEC play.

Probably to far to drive your Dodge Neon to travel I'm guessing. :finger:

Enjoy your visit in Missoula.

Actually, the liberality of Missoula is one of the things that attracted me. The Griz were the first thing, of course. :thumb:

They're probably triathletes, Chris! Go ride with them!

(seriously, if you get a chance, take in a Colorado triathlon team event. They have one of the better teams in the nation. I guarantee you'll be impressed with the athletes you see)

...as for observer..

Sounds like another high school kid.

You don't like Missoula, feel free to stay home, man. Nobody's forcing you to visit. I would think you'd be happy the entire state isn't just all the same. I don't think Montana has ever stood for bland homogeneity, thankfully. I hope it never does.
