Mike Leach Firing

When I watch ESPN's blatantly pro-TT Admin coverage of this fiasco, a song keeps playing through my head:

"It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Kramer!"

The similarities between these cases are mindboggling.
 
The similarities of this case are none.

Kramer was let go because of his team's performance off the field, and in the classroom.

Leach was let-go because of a really crazy story that has not been verified by anyone other than Andrew James.

I think TT made a huge mistake by firing Leach. He was a great coach who brought recognition to a Texas Tech team left for dead in the Big 12. If it wasn't for Leach, TT would probably be bottom feeding in the Big 12 South with Baylor. TT has produced some great talent over the last few years. Methinks that Craig James must be donating a ton of money to TT if they were willing just to break ties w/ Leach. This article kind of sums it up (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=4782668), referring to James' ability to walk into a TT locker room. Someone's going to snag Leach, this year or next.. it'll be interesting to see where he goes.
 
From the news tonight, they asked him to agree to follow the Dr's. instructions with regard to injured players, and he refused to sign something that said he would do so. They said that was insubordination.
 
It sounds like there were strained relations between Leach and the powers that be. Also, it was reported that if Leach was still coach on Jan 1, he would receive an $800.000 bonus. That might have entered into the decision. Gotta feeling there may be a lawsuit in the making.
 
Clark, the reports I heard was that that bonus was due 31 DEC 09 vice 01 Jan 10. They served notice on Leach's attorney AT THE COURT HOUSE for the injunction hearing, citing "insubordination" regarding the suspension.

BTW, I've seen the facilities in question on a TV news broadcast posted on YouTube. The "shed" was in reality a completely emptied garage used to store football equipment, which was cool since it was December and had a functioning ice machine. It looked pretty comfortable. The "electrical closet" was in reality a press conference facility used for post-game interviews. There was water available, and the "guards" were three trainers (one licensed by the state, a GA trainer, and an undergrad trainer) tasked to ensuring the receiver's comfort. The light levels were all in keeping with the attending physician's instructions regarding the receiver's concussion.

TT is going to have a hard time making this stick in court. Leach is going to get millions, it appears.
