Middle Screen

I hope next year we would try a few middle screens. Having the defense so spread out
I'm amazed we don't try a few here and there. We only ran one wide receiver screen and
Got an easy first down. In the first half some of the cornerbacks were playing off our receivers
By 10 yards, and we never took advantage of it. Just some observations that I had.

Did we run a "Trick Play" all season? Not that a screen is a trick play of course.. I dont recall a Fake FG, Double Pass or any thing like that all year. I could be mistaken but with all the close games, and 2 diffrent more mobile QBs maybe when Luke was in and it was kinda Wildcat-ish... Or I could have just blanked on something

The way our D seemed to struggle with them I would have thought they practiced some at somepoint, No?

The GRIZ should have really screwed with them and come out with a double tight end two back set and ran power sweeps and misdirections for the first drive or two. Something no one saw all season from them. Then hit them with the ol strech plays in the air. Playoff games call for drastic measures. I guess you could say just continue to do what got you to the playoffs in the first place though. Get em next year. Go GRIZ.

Dang, we have a bunch of championship coaches on this board.
You are right. I'm sorry. I also was half joking about the double tight end thing. Seeing the GRIZ put up only six points in a game is so shocking that it caused me to make an emotional post that was way off base. I will stick to being an electrician, and coaching LITTLE LEAGUE football.

No problem. I get how you feel. I was including the 4 posts above you too. (If I could figure out how to do that boxy thing I would have.) I just get a kick out of fans second guessing what is considered to be, by people much more informed about football than I am, one of the best offensive minds in the country.

Coach needs to watch a few of Don Reads big game videos. Read always showed new plays and formations, stuff the other teams hadn't seen before. Trick plays? What a novel idea

Yes, I believe that he does. He puts me in mind of Don Coryell. He has brought the GRIZ back to the glory days sooner than most expected. I'm glad the GRIZ have him. They will get better as they go.

I wasnt second guessing Stitt, just making an observation, with all these Offensive ideas, the Fly Sweep, Going on 4th down and all the up tempo I was just surprised when I realized he hadn't done a "trick" play.. Even Bobby Ball and Delaney would try something every now and then

How about something that looks like "play-action"'so as to give the LB's and safeties something to think about... A reverse, or the GD fly sweep itself? YSU ran it a few times with great results on this same defense. Do we not have the talent to do that? Just lining up and putting it all on the QBs shoulders, like yesterday, isn't a winning strategy..

I too had to wonder why not the "Stitt sweep"? I can only speculate but it seems odd that we ran it only once or twice that that I can recall. Our running game fools no one.
