Microsoft a Dark Horse Move Up Donor?

Why? If you don't explain your comment, it's one of the dumbest I've ever read, as all those joking about QE2. C'mon jokers, why is this thread so funny? I'll bet none of you are capable of plumbing your own minds so you can explain the source of your humor. What a crew!

I worked at Microsoft for over 10 years. My wife and brother still work there and my wife and I have made a few donations through the Microsoft Matching Gift Program. And I know at of least 13 people from Libby Senior High that work/worked there along with a dozen or so more that graduated from UM, so believe me when I say that hoping that Microsoft the corporation would for some reason donate money to the UM for the purpose of the Griz "moving up" to a BCS conference is as far out there as anything I have ever heard. I have a pretty good idea on the kinds of causes the Microsoft donates to, and fanciful whims of college football fans two states away is definitely not one of them.

If your goal is to have a Microsoft Alumnae make a contribution as an individual, I am certain that it would NOT qualify as part of the Matching Gift Program. Then you would need to hope that the Microsoft Alumna would be for the move up. Of all the UM grads that worked at Microsoft, Connors is the only one with the money to make an impact. I don’t know him very well, but I do know him and while he is generally a pretty polite guy, I am guessing he would laugh in the face at the individual making this request.

In all seriousness, you probably have a better chance of sinking your savings into lottery tickets and financing it yourself if you happen to win.

How about NorthWestern Energy, a company that needs to win over property owners from Great Falls to Dillon in order to build its proposed transmission line to deliver wind energy to CA. Bet that the company will also be looking to raise your utility bills to pay for the line. There's a company that needs to win over more than a few Montanans.

How about Arch Coal, a company that wants to build a mega billion dollar mine in eastern montana but keeps catching flack from Missoula-based greenies. Theres a company that could be in the market for a little public support.

How about Westbred, a Montana based branch of Monsanto that is gearing up to market genetically modified wheat, again opposed mostly by folks in Missoula. This company could use a few Griz rooting for it.

How about RX Exploration, a Canadian Company that bought the Drumlummon Mine in Marysville and just hit the kind of gold vein that comes along once every hundred years. Yet again a company that could use a little love from the people electing the government of the state of Montana.

How about Kohlman Partnership, Devon Energy Corp., The Williams Companies, BP America, Amerada Hess Corp, JMI Energy Inc, or good old Grizzly Res Inc -- the top oil and gas lease holders on the Rocky Mountain Front. Again, companies that could be in the market for a little public support.

You guys kill me with your plans to tap every vacationing millionare with a Montana cabin. "Hey, I know let's ask McDonalds, they have a big M."

If you want big corporate sponsors, you better educate yourselves about the companies who do real business in this state and might have a reason to care if anyone in Montana gives a shit about them.

This is the kind of brainstorming I was hoping for. I referred to Microsoft in my topic title, but I was really talking about companies like Microsoft. I didn't know MT had so many corporations with a real stake in this state, and that is good news. This is the kind of corporate money UM needs to move up, just as Boise State and Idaho got from their corporations, as well as private donors.

The funniest thing is that you are clapping and giving thumbs up to a post that was basically taking a shot at you and your stupid thread and I don't think you even realize it.

WOW. Just wow.

Explain that, Hammer, if you can.

let's just start with his last 2 paragraphs...

If you want big corporate sponsors, you better educate yourselves about the companies who do real business in this state and might have a reason to care if anyone in Montana gives a shit about them.

These kinds of comments were stupid and facetious. Too bad the thread ran off in that direction. I don't think that comment was re: the thread, itself.

This is what I was hoping for as an intelligent post. I don't think the comment reflected on the thread as much as it did on getting eGrizzers to focus on real sources of donations. I agree totally with that post.

BTW, are you agreeing with Hammer or with me?

ILTC: You are describing color to a blind person.

D2: "cats" was spot on. Those statements were two solid shots across your bow. If you can't see that then (and I know you can't) then no one will be able to help you to. Had you started this thread without the really naive/ridiculous idea about Microsoft then you could possibly claim that you were just trying to elicit intelligent brainstorming. But you already set the tone and so you are stuck with it.

Welcome to D2's domed world...

What do you mean by that? Explain yourself! You're like Hammer: Make an accusation & not supply a foundation for it.

You don't know that. All Cats did was cite the last two paragraphs, not saying what they meant.

BS. You're a Hammer wannabe. Did you read griz4life's entire post in this thread? And, what's wrong about starting a thread and later realizing what you really meant and saying so? Cats focused on the last TWO paragraphs, without his own comments. JHC! Am I supposed to be a mind reader? Apparently, you & Hammer think I am, & BTW, thanks for interpreting griz4life's comments in a way I don't think he meant. WHAT MAKES YOU GUYS SO PRESCIENT THAT YOU KNOW GRIZ4LIFE WAS PUTTING DOWN THE IDEA OF A LOCAL DONOR, WHEN HE DIDN'T SAY THAT? I've already said what I think he meant in those last two paragraphs, and I agree with him.

But, let Cats & griz4life speak for themselves. I wish they would, instead of you Hammerites.

my apologies. as always i should have used better judgement and stayed away from this thread. the reason i didn't add any of my own comments was because i honestly didn't think it was necessary. his entire thread seemed to me to point out how funny it is that people are just naming any random loaded guy or company with even the smallest ties to the state of montana and thinking they'd contribute to the griz. you'd have to ask him to be sure that's what he meant but that's how i took it. if i was wrong...oh well, certainly not the first time and likely won't be the last. :thumb: again, my apologies for further mudding up the waters of this already very funny, and confusing thread. 8-)

Well then to borrow a page from you:

BS. How do you know who I wanna be? Did you ask me? No, you just criticize me without explaining what I meant. You are so totally unfair. You are just a DjollieBalls wanna be.

BTW - Don't bother responding. This is the last time I will comment -- or even look at -- this farcical thread. D2, you are a work of art!

Over and out.

Only griz4life can tell us what he actually meant. I don't think he was throwing out random names. I think he was telling others in the thread that if they were serious about prospective donors, here's some companies that should be considered, given what they're taking from the state. If he were flippant, instead of spending the time citing all those companies with brief explanations, he could have just cited 2 or 3 & then said that's how much chance UM has for them to donate. Only griz4life can tell us what he meant. Sarcasm can be subtle, but I don't think that's the case, here. If I'm wrong, so be it.

If you let the moron's have the last word... its good for their egos. Watch and read who follows this post.

And don't you just love it when somebody else comes along and removes those apostrophes that shouldn't have been there in the first place?

Oh, btw, DAFT is a description of a mental state, not a name.

Alpha LOVES apostrophes and uses them just to use them throughout his posts whether one is needed or not.
