Microsoft a Dark Horse Move Up Donor?

Think about it. Microsoft owns/sponsors losing programs: Trailblazers, Mariners, Seahawks, UW, maybe even WSU. Why not sponsor a winner: UM football? Microsoft has many Montanans in its corporate staff. Washington state is loaded with Griz fans, some regularly posting on this board. Microsoft is a northwest corporation that I think looks to not only WA, but MT as well, for its talent. I think Microsoft takes pride in its commitment to its northwest roots. UM has many WA & Idaho players on its roster. And, the connection between Seattle and Western MT is strong.

The Washingtons have done all they can (I think) for UM football. Some other well-heeled corporation has to step up, and MT simply does not have one on the scale needed. The Idaho football programs, as far as I know, were able to move up only because of massive private support. I would not be surprised, when the time comes (in 2 years?) if Microsoft comes through.

Willie....you don't know that to be true. You have the typical can't do attitude reflected by many on this forum.

You don't even know me or what I'm about. So don't pretend you can judge me.

With the way Microsoft is competing with Apple these days, they can't afford to just give out money like they have in the past.

Apple and Google are hitting the microsoft pocketbook pretty hard lately. I know several montana school districts are dumping microsoft exchange and office for google online Docs and email. Billings saved a huge chunk of money dumping microsoft products for student use (as in hundreds of thousands of $$)

Quote"So starting June 28 — at 4 p.m. to be exact — School District 2 will move all its data and programs from its servers at the Lincoln Center to an online storage facility maintained by Google, a service called cloud computing. The move will save the district roughly $235,000 over the next three years in reduced labor, hardware and software costs."

I love the suggestion that BP could become a big donor.

They could sponsor a segment in each quarter:

"GRIZ football you cant stop us, you can only hope to contain us."

"Beat the GRIZ? Your gonna have a crude awakening"

"Your gassed and the GRIZ are fast"

"Have fun trying to cap the well oiled Phen N Spray, point gusher"

BP could hand out maroon and silver wash cloths to soak up the tears of the opponent on their long ride back home.

This has fu*king potential!!! Somebody needs to pump BP until they are primed to throw down some cash for locker rooms.

There is no substitute for a positive attitude. David2 makes a very good point.....possibly Microsoft will contribute to the UM athletic program to change our conference affiliation, perhaps not. The truth is that there are many corporations in Montana and outside of Montana that will gladly contribute when the time comes..or maybe I should say, if the time comes. Will the feasibility study ever be done? Thus far, Dennison has done a magnificent job of stonewalling and working hard to convince many of influence that a conference change is ill advised, so we can only hope that the new president will play a positive role in moving toward a conference change.

That was pretty clever, I think you are the one that should go dude.

Ok, positive thinking aside, what REAL affiliation does anyone from Microsoft have with the U of M? I'm not saying there isn't one but realistically there'd have so be an alumnus of some status to push something like that through. MS is going to donate 'cause Montanans are really swell people... If anyone might donate to U it might be Phil Jackson but he would almost certainly donate for the basketball program -- even that would require some kind of motivator.

Don't know why not... the CEO's of Google and Microsoft have places in Whitefish, as do the CEO's for McDonalds, Intel, and on and on and on. Plus Gates is building one hell of a place on an island near Rollins (Flathead Lake). Plus, Charles Schwab, Huey Lewis, Hank Williams Jr., etc., etc., etc., are in the Bitterroot, and Tom Cruise and a kazillion other actors are all in the Flathead, not to mention Phil Jackson. They read the newspapers and watch local news. Make 'em a part of it!

It is impresive how many " star / famous " call Mt home for the summer that is fo sure. Robert Lee I think his name is owns or owned a hughe home on Cromwell Isalnd on Flathead Lake. I worked out on the island during the construction of the main house. At the time he had built the two largest log homes in the state for guest houses. The main house had if I recall 2' thick concrete walls with 6" steel stud framing in the inside and the exterior was getting Idaho quartz rock. It was quite impressive at the time. There is one spot on 93 where you can or used to be able to get a small glimpse of the place.
Long stroy short yet another person that could contribute should they desire. Will or would any of them??? You never know unless you ask and pitch a sale to them.
Happy 4th of July Griz Nation. Even you Mayor!! :)

Asking for money is not as easy as it seems. Getting people or companies to pony up is very, very difficult. However, the answer is only a sure "NO", if you don't ask. Just by asking, you increase your chance dramatically.

Volunteer for one of the many GSA boards and get asking. It can be very rewarding. Quit waiting for somebody else to do it and complaining because "nobody ever does anything".

...including for the current Griz FCS program. Don't wait for a move up to happen to help.

I'm pretty sure that everything, or at least most everything, in this quote is not accurate.

Just about every famous person lives part time in Montana... Or well, you understand what I'm saying... As far as Bill Gates, I don't know if he even knows what Foosball is.... But Paul Allen on the other hand... Doing whatever it takes to move up would pay dividends for MS, just on the commercials alone

One thing that is close to true, well the state is correct anyway, Gordon Moore the retired chairman and CEO of Intel has a ranch down in the Bitteroot. You can go ask hm for money if you wish but don't expect too much. Nice guy though...

I think you should approach Bill Gates directly. He has a very well funded foundation and I'm sure you can explain that while trying to curb disease and famine among millions of people in Africa may be a noble cause, it pales in comparison to a few "wackos" in Montana who think that it is the end of the world if their football team doesn't move up to a higher division.

Seriously folks-get a grip!
