Mick Delaney is returning to coach the Griz in 2013

Potomac....Engstrom and Haslam were both insiders when hired. Odds are they will hire an insider when the time comes. Oh, they will probably say they are doing a national search, but I would bet the farm it will be a back room decision and another insider will be hired.

If the staff doesn't get fired mid-season next year (which will never happen); I bet the next head coaches name starts with an R and ends with a H. This University will always look for the cheapest in-house fix.........It should be noted that I hope they hire someone with little or no ties to the U of M. We need a new coach who can make his own brand.

It's the right move. Next year's senior class will provide the leadership that was sorely missing this year. We will be in a MUCH better spot at QB. Honestly, I'm surprised we were 5-6 this year.. finding out you don't have your starting QB a week before the season....with a new HC, and OC??? That is BRUTAL. This season could have easily been a 2-9 campaign.. (as well as it could have easily been a 9-2 season).
As it's been noted... no decent head coach prospect will come here not knowing the fall-out from the NCAA (or lack thereof), I'm glad Delaney is back, and we'll see a different team on the field next year.

Lol at the people who think quality coaches wouldn't want to come to our program.

Let me look....yup this is egriz.com the website for the MONTANA GRIZZLIES. I would bet my house and my next 10 years salary on there being at least 30 better qualified, interested individuals in the position than Delaney.

Ohio State got Urban Meyer with all their problems.

And 5.5 a year....

Not exactly an equal comparison.

It's smaller proportioned but equal... The Offensive Coordinater or head coach at a lower FCS school probably makes less money than we would offer a quality head coach. The salary is obviously not as high, but it's still a large sum of money to some.

Got it. I thought he meant the first name started with and R. I am moving so I am a little tired...and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The 5.5 was not the only factor to coach Ohio State. I think there would be plenty of coaches who would jump at the chance to coach at UM even if it is not 5.5.

Anyone that doesn't think we'd get good quality HC candidates because of the NCAA investigation is flat out kidding themselves.

And we will get those candidates, next December.

Very sad. Mick Delaney was the only option in a dire situation. But why suffer through another year of ineptness when the Griz could go get a good quality long term coach now? Just doesn't make sense to me to bring him back.

BS. This is the right move for the program moving forward. Having Delaney here another year will allow us to conduct a nationwide search and make better long term descisons for the program. If he decided to suddenly resign or was fired, we would have to make a quicker hire or have another interim coach for several months, which is a very difficult position. We are rebuilding and you can't just fire and hire people every year and expect to build a long term winning program. Coaching changes are hard on programs. Our fans have been so damned spoiled and want instant results, which we've been lucky enough to experience with our past changes, but is just not realistic.

Crap. Like we haven't heard this all before whenever we fall short on expectations...

You guys can keep complaining and build up animosity towards a guy you don't know and make negative statements on crap you don't understand. What our program needs is support and positive support. That makes a difference in the attitude of the program, recruiting, and overall success. The man deserves your respect and needs your support.

Very good post. Agreed. Of course, Delaney is coming back. He should. Of course, I suppose he could later decide to do something else, but UM isn't going to force him out and pay him a bundle of money.
