My speculation was right sooner than later. Good luck Michael.
Too bad. I think he would have been a starter next year, or deserved to be. He was playing baseball, and pitching, for the UM club baseball team this spring. Maybe that's a passion. I'm bummed. I assume UM is bringing in what they think is a terrific player in replacement, but this one pisses me off.

Mike Taylor would've been a key leader for us next year, and I don't think Griz fans got a feel for just how good of a shooter he is. All the best to Mike though and his attempt at a baseball career....seems like a really nice kid....but yea this is an aggravating loss.
Good luck to Michael. We will definitely miss his shooting.

Michael Taylor may have been one of the best guys on the team, and a nice shooter, but let's be honest folks, he couldn't guard anyone. Why? Because when up against the best of the BSC, and in the NCAA, he was just a step slow, as is Stockton. I think the world of Taylor, but he is making a good decision in my opinion. He would be getting passed up by younger, better players next season and no SR wants to sit on the pine. Best of luck to him in his carrer and upcoming marriage. :thumb:

I agree. If he is playing for the UM club baseball team (which I'm not sure is true) then he clearly has other passions, which is fine, just not when you have a D1 basketball scholarship. Had a class with him a while back, nice kid, wish him the best.

Michael Taylor is playing baseball as well as being a good pitcher. They are playing the cats at ogren field on sat. He was drafted out of highschool for baseball.

Signee Finishes 26-0 in Baseball . . .
Eagle Basketball point guard signee Michael Taylor from Brewster, Wash., High School closed his prep career with a perfect 26-0 record as a pitcher for the school's baseball team.
He helped lead the Bears to their second-straight State 1A title with a pair of victories May 26-27, 2006, in Yakima, Wash. He pitched a two-hitter in a 5-1 victory over Kalama in the championship game as Brewster won its 49th-straight game dating back to a semifinal loss in the 2004 State Tournament. He finished the title game with 11 strikeouts.
In a 22-1 victory over Seattle Christian in the semifinals, he had five RBI in the first inning alone as Brewster scored 11 runs in that frame. He finished his senior year with a batting average of nearly .500 and a 9-0 pitching record with an earned run average of about 2.00.
On the basketball court as a senior, Taylor was selected as the State 1A Player of the Year by the Seattle Times, and was also selected by that newspaper as a second team All-State selection including players from all classifications. He averaged 25.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and nearly three steals per game in leading 24-2 Brewster to its second-straight runner-up finish in the State 1A Tournament where he was MVP.

That sucks. I thought Taylor would be the heir apparent to take over Staudacher's position. Always thought he should have gotten more minutes.
Michael was a great shooter, he will be missed.
He came to UM because he thought that UM would be his best chance to get to the NCAA Tournament. He reached his goal.
He is getting married, they both will be attending Whitworth where he will play basketball and baseball.

Sure does sound like Michael is a heck of a pitcher, no argument there, but he wasn't drafted. I checked. A different Michael Taylor, out of Stanford was drafted in 2007, but no Michael or Mike Taylor in 2006. Probably because he was already committed to play hoops at EWU he went undrafted.
