Message from UM President Seth Bodnar

Nice sentiments

Will await the action validating his letter

A good start, optimism can be infectious

go Grizzlies

He was a leader @ GE. Dear friend & best man when I got married all those years back was a VP in the transportation - rail car group.

Lots of lovely sentiment, expect difficult dialogues & improvement plans that aren’t embraced by the majority. Not going to keep him from changing what needs be. Book that.

Good to hear bigdog. I didn’t realize G.E. had a rail transportation group.

As impressive as I would have expected. What a difference.

so what did engstrom's first message to the um community say(bqm)

i ask because you seem to know, ergo the comment. or were you comparing your hopes for how bodnar's time as president goes to your opinion of how engstrom's time went (i agree it was bad)(bqm) i bet he had you at the cherish diversity part, or was it the safe place mention that got you on his side(bqm)

Wow...you got him there, Argh. Yeah, Kem...is it your hatred for Royce or were you blindly swayed by Bodnar's past, where he graduated first in his class from West Point, received both the Rhodes and Truman scholarships, and earned two masters degrees from the University of Oxford?? Maybe Kem has false high hopes because Seth, prior to his time on faculty at West Point, had a distinguished military career, serving in the 101st Airborne Division and the US Army’s First Special Forces Group. Then, as a member of the Army’s elite Green Berets, he commanded a Special Forces detachment on multiple deployments around the world and later served as a special assistant to the Commanding General in Iraq. As a result of his collaborative leadership style and his ability to lead teams through uncertainty and change, he received numerous awards and was promoted early to the rank of Major.

Or, Kem, does the fact that Seth was a senior executive at the General Electric Company, responsible for long-term strategy and business transformation at GE Transportation, a global company with over 10,000 employees and approximately $5 billion in revenue??

Will you ever take off those maroon-colored glasses, Kemajic (bqm)

That's an early post of the year candidate! Also a GGNez mic drop moment. Good stuff!

As usual, your bet is a loser.

I am 71 years old, and am here to tell you that I did my fair share of catchin in my younger days. Those are obviously long gone. I have never been accused of sexual harassment. I'm thinkin that's because I have always respected the opposite sex. That having been said, I have no intention of EVER giving up the pursuit, so as to be politically or socially correct. Never in my life have I ever been either one, nor will I be. IMHO, so much (not all) of that stuff is pure POPPYCOCK!!!
Stil, well said. I am 77 and don’t plan on not looking at and talking to the ladies.
Thank you sir..... And for you.....     :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :D :D :D :D

Ok, guys....we've derailed here. Let's get back on track:

Seth Bodnar? Easy on the eyes, or no??
OK, I'll play. Nice looking for a man I guess, but doesn't do anything for me !!!!  Now, if you want to talk easy on the eyes with me, let's talk about Shannon Cate Schweyen !! ;) ;)

Ok.....GGNez, easy on the eyes or no? And, if she asked you to "get a room" would you?

Now, which one is sexual harassment and which one isn't?

Am I allowed to vote on this? You say "easy on the eyes", I say utterly stunning. Breathtaking, perhaps.

As for the room...I've never asked anyone to get a room. That's all on Dan....he just tells me to get one from time to time, so...

You can be as cute about this as you like, but you have sexualized the president of the UM. My point is, where is the line drawn?

This goes back to my commentary about reason and logic. What I’ve done is state that our new UM president is an attractive man. I’ve also stated on eGriz that Chris’s girlfriend is very attractive. I stated in the past that PR has a beautiful wife. Do you honestly not understand where the line is drawn? Do you not understand the difference between making somebody feel uncomfortable or being creepy And stating that somebody is attractive? Some people don’t understand. Others try to attack someone they believe is liberal in their politics by playing this little game you’re playing. I’m trying to figure out the difference. Do you really not get it?

what, you think engstrom didn't have a good looking cv, including really good reports from his time as provost(real bqm) have you read his first missive to the faculty(bqm) again, i thought engstrom was bad, but his cv, from the perspective of higher education, was not.

or maybe i should put it another way: why not just say bodnar's letter was great, and skip the put-down(bqm) oh wait, the put-down makes you (and apparently others) feel better about yourselves. sad.
I didn't really put down Engstrom or even mention his name, but since you want to go to the next layer, OK. I'm a chemist myself and after 8 years in Universities and 35 years as a professional in the field, I'm likely a better judge of Engstrom's academic credentials than you. In fact, he was undistinguished as a researcher; his publications are very old and unimportant and he likely needed to migrate to administration. He advanced to provost at South Dakota before making a lateral move to Montana at the same level. It was his ceiling at USD and should have been at UM as well. Shame on the decision to promote him to President. It has set the University back years.

Part of GE capital, rail car leasing. Not really a true transportation group.

I read his qualifications (accompanied by photo) and immediately showed my girlfriend knowing she would like both. Was I sexualizing the applicant? Was she by looking? Your indicating that a line should exist for one being complimented or flattered in world where not enough of that exists or will ultimately desist with a line.

El Griz...thank you for your important contribution to this thread. I see you don't comment often, so I appreciate it. Honestly, I could have also (and will, if you prefer), post commentary and a photo of Seth Bodnar's beautiful, clearly intelligent and successful doctor wife. I complimented the Hollywood, undeniable attractiveness of an obviously otherwise qualified man. There is a REAL problem with people in this divisive, "gotcha" culture. Truly, some people lack experience and understanding of the history and nature of sexual assault and harassment, so they attack the people who try to fight against it. Or, their politics are polarized and they just want to criticize or shame anyone who they perceive to be on the opposite side. It's simple, ignorant and frankly, boooorrriiinnnggg.

It's not a "gotcha" moment to "catch" a woman who stands up against sexual assault calling a man attractive. Come on, humans.....evolve....

Thanks, K, for making a good case. I had the same thoughts, based on my career as a Ph.D. chemist in research and teaching: national lab during the day, teaching in the evenings (graduate and undergraduate classes). "Undistinguished" seems like a pretty good description of his research output. As for his teaching, I do not recall a lot of time presenting rigorous graduate courses. It may, perhaps, be unfair, but that suggests that his chair(s) considered his talents suitable only for a relatively undemanding level of classes. Not to say such classes are not important, but you must be able to challenge (and inspire) bright students at the graduate level so they can grow to be competent professional themselves.

As for his administrative abilities, or lack thereof, that's harder to judge. But his focus on largely meaningless fluff suggested that he was good at filling out forms but had no real leadership skills/qualities whatsoever (which turned out to be the case).

fanofzoo....that was a super hot thing to say....

does that help?

Is it okay to say Glacier National Park is easy on the eyes? Or does that make me a nature-loving libtard?
