Message from UM President Seth Bodnar

Smart letter!! It's easy to see why Mr. Bodnar is as successful as he's been. Gratitude, leadership, confidence, optimism, transparency and some semblance of a PLAN. I like it. Plus, come on guys....he's fairly easy on the eyes, am I right?
Isn’t it comments like your last one that perpetuate the harassment climate that exists in the workplace currently?

Not in my opinion. I don't actually work with Mr. Bodnar, for one thing. Just like posts about Chris's fiancée being attractive or Brock Coyle got a "nice catch" don't really incite or qualify as workplace harassment...

I've never been one to mind being called easy on the eyes, attractive, that I look nice...the problem lies with people who don't actually understand the difference between a compliment and an innuendo. Either that's you, or you're just making assumptions about my perspective based on your own prejudices.

We still don't know what kind of leader he is going to be, but his letter hit the right notes that people wanted to hear. I am optimistic, but in all reality, Argh does have a point, although maybe not put forth correctly.

The proof will come with what happens to enrollment and morale the next couple years, not in an open letter to the university. But he did hit all his marks with that letter, and that is exactly what we wanted to read.

As impressive as I would have expected. What a difference.

so what did engstrom's first message to the um community say(bqm)

i ask because you seem to know, ergo the comment. or were you comparing your hopes for how bodnar's time as president goes to your opinion of how engstrom's time went (i agree it was bad)(bqm) i bet he had you at the cherish diversity part, or was it the safe place mention that got you on his side(bqm)

Wow...you got him there, Argh. Yeah, Kem...is it your hatred for Royce or were you blindly swayed by Bodnar's past, where he graduated first in his class from West Point, received both the Rhodes and Truman scholarships, and earned two masters degrees from the University of Oxford?? Maybe Kem has false high hopes because Seth, prior to his time on faculty at West Point, had a distinguished military career, serving in the 101st Airborne Division and the US Army’s First Special Forces Group. Then, as a member of the Army’s elite Green Berets, he commanded a Special Forces detachment on multiple deployments around the world and later served as a special assistant to the Commanding General in Iraq. As a result of his collaborative leadership style and his ability to lead teams through uncertainty and change, he received numerous awards and was promoted early to the rank of Major.

Or, Kem, does the fact that Seth was a senior executive at the General Electric Company, responsible for long-term strategy and business transformation at GE Transportation, a global company with over 10,000 employees and approximately $5 billion in revenue??

Will you ever take off those maroon-colored glasses, Kemajic (bqm)

what, you think engstrom didn't have a good looking cv, including really good reports from his time as provost(real bqm) have you read his first missive to the faculty(bqm) again, i thought engstrom was bad, but his cv, from the perspective of higher education, was not.

or maybe i should put it another way: why not just say bodnar's letter was great, and skip the put-down(bqm) oh wait, the put-down makes you (and apparently others) feel better about yourselves. sad.
Did you even read the posts above yours? No put downs of Engstrom, just platitudes from Bodnar. But since you brought it up, it would be interesting to see Engstrom's first missive for comparison. Please post it.

Come on AZ. You are kidding?

Thank you, Spanky. To further my point, the ONLY aspect of this divisive climate that is equal on both sides is the idiotic blindness to reason. For example:
I say, “Bobby Hauck is not responsible for the sexual assault problems that happened here”
A blindly prejudiced guy on the far left attacks me for being associated with Maroonblood.

I say (hypothetically) “you can’t tell your secretary that her dress would look nice on your bedroom floor.”
Blindly prejudiced guy on the right says, “Great! Now I can’t even tell a woman she looks nice without getting fired or sued!”

Some of us actually form opinions based on reason, evidence and experience.

This is what he will eventually be judged upon. Take the University on an historic ride of success and that's what will cement a legacy. Don't do much...and people will question was a "non academic" the right call when the University needed an academic leader.

GG, don’t ever change. Like so many things in our country, we have gone too far with sexual harassment. For example, as a bartender in my UM days I admired many ladies and many ladies admired me. The direction in which we are headed, men and women won’t be allowed to pursue each other.

I agree. It's too bad that so much educating, explaining, criminalizing and otherwise managing harassment (of every kind) and assault (of any kind) has to be done on a continual basis. If people could just live by the basic concepts of "don't make other people uncomfortable" and "don't be a dick," we would have much more time on our hands to argue about football.

It's the idiots who lack self-awareness and control that don't recognize all the signs indicating that they are being creepy or abusive that ruin things for everyone.

I am 71 years old, and am here to tell you that I did my fair share of catchin in my younger days. Those are obviously long gone. I have never been accused of sexual harassment. I'm thinkin that's because I have always respected the opposite sex. That having been said, I have no intention of EVER giving up the pursuit, so as to be politically or socially correct. Never in my life have I ever been either one, nor will I be. IMHO, so much (not all) of that stuff is pure POPPYCOCK!!!

Ok, guys....we've derailed here. Let's get back on track:

Seth Bodnar? Easy on the eyes, or no??

If I start a move up thread, will it denigrate into a sexual harassment discussion?
:coffee:
I'm not really surprised with how things have gone...typical off season bullshit.

Ok.....GGNez, easy on the eyes or no? And, if she asked you to "get a room" would you?

Now, which one is sexual harassment and which one isn't?

Nice sentiments

Will await the action validating his letter

A good start, optimism can be infectious

Am I allowed to vote on this? You say "easy on the eyes", I say utterly stunning. Breathtaking, perhaps.

As for the room...I've never asked anyone to get a room. That's all on Dan....he just tells me to get one from time to time, so...
