Merlot and McDowell

Both were excellent runners first and passers second. Both were natural leaders of the Offense. Both led the home team to dominant wins in the Brawl.
The #1 difference is that one of them returned to a coach that told him he would be the #1 QB. The other was told he would have to compete for the job. (Prove me wrong on this)
With the new rules re: transferring at will, when we get a player like McDowell who clearly elevates the entire team, so much so that we kick ass in the Brawl and beat NDSU in the semis then we need to do whatever we can to keep them here.
I know it sounds like I’m beating a dead horse that has long passed away, but we had a more experienced O line - just as many talented weapons on Offense and all we lacked was a clear #1 QB. It wasn’t Defense that faltered badly in this game, it was our Offense.

Competition is good but so is appreciating what you have when you have it.

I think it sounds like nonsense. bubs are the better team, as I think you would be hard pressed to name a positions group that Montana was better. As for McD, so what if he was told that it would be a competition, if he was really the guy he would have shined and been the starter. He was the one that choose not to.

I don’t have a problem at all with every player having to compete for their position. The cream rises to the top. I do have a problem with knowing that Montana didn’t have a single position group that was better than MSU! Actually, I would say the Griz running backs were equal or better. They just didn’t have the line to prove it. How in the hell do the Griz end up in that situation? Poor recruiting? Player development? Coaching? Somebody fill me in, because I don’t get it. BH couldn’t even get the Griz into the top 3 teams in the BSC! Think about that people. Something is wrong in Zoo Town. Hauck needs to change or go.

If you look at the pro day results the last couple years, it shows that the recruiting and S&C leaves something to be desired.

Do you really believe that Merlot had to compete for starting QB this year?
Maybe McDowell felt he had earned the starting job and he didn't want to compete for what he had already earned.
What would you say is the biggest difference between last year’s Offense and this years?
One thing I know after watching musical QBs this year is that when it came to gametime, McDowell had skills and an attitude that willed the team to play at a higher level. We may not have won today but this year would have been a lot different than it has been.

I said nothing about TM. The biggest difference between last years offense and this years offense was a special teams and defense that made it easy for them. Bottom line, McD chose to leave because he didn't want to prove that he was the guy. I have no issue with Bobby not saying he was the guy. McD is no TM.

You’re dumb. The special teams and defense had nothing to do with Clif throwing darts in two overtime games to get us to the national championship.

Merlott is 10 times better than McDowell.

My view is that you have mis-analyzed the situation.

Griz better at rb, receivers, linebackers and secondary. Not the lines or qb.

Clif is ten times better than any quarterback on our team. Today was probably as gratifying to him as all those Missoula kids playing for the cats walking up and shaking BH's hand.
McDowell isn't better than either the top 2 QB's at UM. And I don't think the team or coaches miss him at all. They don't or wouldn't miss you either.

4th in BSC this year a pretty typical finish for Hauck 2.0. Griz have been higher than 3rd only once since he rode his horse in to save the day.

Look Glacier I get your on here jokingly and what not but if McDowell was such a “talent” why did he transfer to one of the worst FCS teams?
