Men's basketball Scrimmage

Went to the Griz Mens BB scrimmage. Three guys really stood out offensively in this game. Roy Booker, Steve Horne, and Kevin Criswell.

If this scrimmage is indicative of what is going to happen, these three players will be tough to stop.

And as long as these three players are productive, Kamarr Davis, and Seyfert and/or Cummings will be especially difficult to stop. Kamaar had the best night scoring wise today.

Seyfert looked like he was on the weights a lot as he looked very strong. He had one of the best dunks of the scrimmage.

Point guard may be a problem starting out though. Booker may have to start out at point guard. Seems Mansell is having more problems. Not sure, didn't quite catch everything said when they introduced him. He did not play today, and not sure when he will be able to.

A walk on, Brian Lynch, I thought played decently at point guard but was more impressed with his defense on Booker.

Saw a couple of football players at the scrimmage. Not sure who one of them was, but the other player was Craig Ochs.
 
I also went to the game, I saw a pretty solid club with a few main concerns, first is the point postion already mentioned, second is the posts, we had a problem in this area last year, and I hope that the new commers can pick up the offense and play to what I hear are great abilities. Tonight I saw alot of missed opertunities and easy shots not going down. I feel they need to be more physical and not be afraid to take the ball to the hole. Also on rebounds they are not going straight back to the hoop but are giving the one bounce and then trying to go back up, this is going to lead to alot of steals and jump balls if they are not careful. SweetGriz says be the big man that you are and throw the rock down! or at least draw a foul.
 
A couple thoughts I had watching:
Criswell is a streaky shooter - sometimes awesome, sometimes he can't buy a bucket. I remember this from last year, and it seems to happen when he is tired (like playing 40 minutes). Also, he has the best nose for the ball I have seen in a long time. One of the smallest guys on the floor is a leader in rebounds and steals. He moves to the ball when everyone else is waiting for it.

Booker looks like he will create a lot of excitement, but needs to watch the silly fouls (there were a lot of ticky-tack called last night, but some of his were silly). Also, take better control of the ball. A good example towards the end of the game he had a great steal, then threw it away. Looks like he was down on himself and the coaches talked to him about it, so it looks like something they are working on.

Seyfort looks to be a good inside player. He forced a couple of shots he should have passed, but I think this will come with more playing time and trust in his teammates.

It didn't look to me that we are a real strong threat inside yet. Almost all shots (I could be wrong here, just my impression) were in transistion or from the arc. This might change with McKay back in the game, and for as big as Davis is I would like to see him move some bodies around under the basket.

I think to win the BSC we will need to develop the inside game, and get more agressive on rebounding. Shooting 3 is exciting, but if you live by the 3 you die by the 3.

Cummins looked o.k., still has a sweet stroke on the 3. I heard him talking alot on the floor, looks like he will step up and provide some leadership, which we need. He has hair? WTF? I didn't even recognize him at first.

For those who didn't see the scrimmage:

Roy Booker (JC guard) has a lot of skills. Good upper body strength and great hang time.

Kamar Davis will be a nice inside addition. He has great hands for a big guy. Physically, he reminds me of Harold Arceneaux from Weber.

All three JC guys seem like hard workers without a JC attitude. For those who have been watching Griz hoops for a LONG time, has there ever been a Griz team with this much depth? I don't think so.
 
I was impressed especially by Seyfert. It looks like he has the ability to take over games. What concerned me most were the unforced turnovers like errant passes out of bounds and (worst of all) traveling. And those refs sure liked to call offensive fouls. I think they went a little too far doing that.

I saw somebody taking pictures down where Kennedy's Krazies shoudl be on the south end of the floor - wasn't sure if that was you, though.
 
No, that wasn't me. I was in a white Griz Sweatshirt taking pictures on the other end of the floor. I try to be discrete, hehe. Next time ya see me say Hi, Chris
