while football per se is not important in the grand scheme of an institution of higher learning, following the griz football team is the reason a lot of alumni keep up on what is happening at the university in general. if i didn't follow the football team, i'd probably miss other news about the university, and donating to certain programs would most likely be a lot further from my mind than it is. also, as someone else pointed out, griz football is a multi-million dollar operation. decisions regarding it are important, even though it is still 'just a game'. that is because it is a game that unites.
